timing retard question

i have a timing retard MSD and was wondering if anyone knows whether you could "feel" any driving difference when the timing is
retarded at 3 degrees. There is a switch key that
allows me to retard the ignition when I want to. I
have tried but the car has not changed its driving characteristics. I would like to know if you can feel something while driving so that I could verify whether this MSD is working properly or not.

thanks,

I wish I new the answer to that, but I hope you are retarding the timing , when you are using the nos and not just regualar driving , I know that no matter where I moved the ignition to , the computer would put the timing back to the correct possition , almost as if to say ,"what is this jerk doing know ,, let me fix it" . So I hope in your case it is working and really retarding cause that comp is smart as hell
I would say get a timing light and then hit the retard switch and then check the timing and see if you can see the timing on -3 ,,, that is the best way to tell ... I f the switch is hit and the mark is at TDC , then you know that the comp is overriding your piggyback

you mean you don't have one , man run and get one bro , that is how you check your timing , you have to look on the side of the car where the belts are , and then cram your eyes to look like on top of one of the pulley's and you will see the ledge with the indentatioins in it ,, if you have a problem finding it ,

I guess I will.

I thought I would be able to "listen" to the engine when the timing was retarded. I saw on ebay this light thing going over 20-150 bucks... Pretty high range. Maybe some are good and some sucks, I need to know how to buy it. In the book I bought about ours mazda, they explain carefully how to check the timing. I could go over the book. But anyways, I should be able to listen to the engine everytime I retard the timing (I guess...)

pictures for bruce

Bruce I will take some pics this weekend so that you could add on your site. The car looks way better now with the new rims and tires. Also with the ignition boxes and strut bar. I need to buy another intake pipe though because I want to move the nitrous jet downstream, more closely to the filter (so that I could get more mix and avoid some cylinders getting more nitrous than others and... BUUUUUUM). Right now, I have the jet too close to the throtlle body.

nitrous install

Bruce, believe me... I could say lots of BS and lie to you, but its pretty straight forward. It may take you some time because involves drilling (to add the cilinder) and patience to hook up the wires and find a nice place for everything (switch, solenoids under the hood, etc) But I did all by myself. It took me the whole day.

this weekend I will check for spark plug after several nitrous applications to see how things are going.

there is a lot oh mithology about nitrous. I take all precautions as well. I do not have money to rebiul an engine as well. But nitrous can be tottaly safe (as it has being with me). You do not want to give a shot higher than 50. Also I would highly recomend to get a O2/fuel meter. ALWAYS run higher octane with nitrous. And avoid using for too long (say more than 15 seconds). If it was dangerous it would be available for sell. You can blow a N/A engine if you push it too hard. How many people mention that ?????
