Diesel Mazda?
How much would it run a person to lets say.....put a diesel engine in a protege? And is it possible to put in a tribute engine? Or even a nice diesel Toyota engine? Can it be done or are there limitations?
My 98 protege now a days is used as a family car but I hope that in about 5 or 6 years I can when its payed off and has like 200K+ on it we can buy another car and I can totaly customize this car. So I was wondering if there are places a person can go to get these type of things done.
Any thoughts?

Are you in the U.S.? If so, why would you want to do such a thing?
Anything is possible if you have enough money.
Putting an engine from manufacturer A into a car made by manufacturer B will more than likely require a lot of custom mounts and modifictions.
Remember, a different engine typically means a different transmission, which sometimes means different axels, etc.

ahhh ic, well i was just wondering cause i wanted to make my pro into like a mini monster truck, raise it about 6in to a foot and put some nice threads on it. Get a Diesel engine, a bigger engine you know....

I am not sure 100%, but there is a diesel model of 2nd gen protege. The things is that they were only sold I think either in Australia/New Zeland, or somewhere in South West Asia. Because I have seen people with hood scoops on their 2nd gen pro. I tried to look the scoop up, and it was described from a turbo-diesel model. So if you really want it, and have a lot of money, do some research on the web. Otherwise, just buy a Gold TDI. You get a diesel and a turbo!

Sure why not? I am sure that most people like their mazda's fast. But I have never really cared about fast cars, I wouldn't invest money in a street racer style protege. I have always loved big and bigger vehicles like the HUMMER, so to me its only natural to think about a protege like that.

In Europe we do have diesel engines...
And I have one. It's a 2.0l 16v engine with variable turbocharger. It gives 100 hp, and just needs 5.5 litres per 100 km, driving at legal speed in highways (120 km/h).
It's quite economic for a daily use, not too fast, but filling my tank just take 30 euros and I drive for 850 km with it . For comparison, the petrol gas is some about 20% more expensive, and the petrol engine wants 7-8 litres per 100 km, so savings are important. OTOH, diesel engine is more expensive, around 1000 euros more, but if you do the math, the engine pays itself in few time.
It came with many of the accessories that are unavalaible there in the US, like the passenger seat that can be folded to behave like a table.
I installed the mud flaps, and I'm going to replace the stock bumpers, which imho are ugly, for the ones in protege5 mp3.
Anyway, Mazda here still named this car as 323, not Protegé, don't know why....

Yup, I didn't look the date. . The original post was written aprox. when I bought the car. Now that I realize, I don't know if mine is 2nd gen or what: it is exactly like the one in the protege club banner (except the color: it's silver grey) , but it's named 323. Go figure.
Google brought me here looking for diesel mazdas, parts and upgrades. I think it's not the right place .
I'm glad to see such a big forum for talking on proteges... Here Mazda sells just a few cars per year (they are less known, and they have to fight against german, french and italian makers).
BTW does anyone know a reputable store willing to sell parts for my car and deliver them overseas?

Mazdaleno, what year is your car? If its like the one on the forum logo, then you have a 3rd generation Protege/323. As for stores, I can list a few, but I am not aware if they ship worldwide.
