Does a GEN3 protege gauge asembly fit in ours??
Do any of you guys know if i can fit a Generation 3 gauge assembly into my Gen2 protege. I need a tachometer, and when i was given a courtesy car from MAZDA i noticed that they seem pretty similar. Anyone know from experience.
Also after that i was thinkin of taking the silver door handles also. Those would look pretty sweet..

What pro do you have? you sig say protege SEI. If you want a tach all you need to do is get the lx or es gauge cluster with tack, i just bought one on ebay for $10 i already have a tach though that i installed last summer, an after maket tach is actually not that hard to install and looks nice in the pro.

Tach
I was looking for one on EBAY and didn't see one. But i will keep looking. A question for ya, i have to digital KM readout. Now when you changed your GAUGES did you lose your original KM and get the guages or keep your readout. I will look for one from our generation for sure, but the New Proteges gauges are pretty sweet. But mainly i just want a tach.
I am not very good with tools but how easy was it to install??
I don't want an aftermarket one.
thnx

You will still have the same KMH readout in your new cluster as the one you have now...the info is stored in you ECU not your gauges...
BTW, very easy to install...its just plug and play.
Oh yeah! In case you wanted to know, you can use 3gen indiglos on your new cluster too (97 up DIGITAL clusters with tach)
www.tommotorsports.com (out of Quebec) has a nice set of indiglos that are in KMH and DO NOT need to have the needles removed!

The tom's motorsports link doesn't work.. and i'm very interested.. do you remember a price off hand? and its plug and play.. sounds simple enough.. i haven't got one cause i thought it was so complicated.. and it being in KM's is a bonus, i thought i'd have to get MPH....

Gonna Check it out.
Oh to correct your link it's . Bought my old exhaust there, he's about 15 minutes from my place. Thnx for the help gonna pass by there.www.tommotorsport.com
But, i was looking for a gauge set that looks nice but doesn't stand out too much, i wanna keep it lookin' stock.
Also K Dawg, you said i can fit a newer gen Protege Gauge cluster in my protege. Because that would be sweet. Also, gives me more options to get one. Awesome..

No, not a newer gen cluster, just a newer gens INDIGLO GAUGES. But, for your replecment cluster, you need a newer 97 or 98 cluster. The 99 up indiglos (like from Toms) will fit on that cluster and the cluster will plug right in to your Protege,,,,

the power supply is where everyone runs into problems...if hooked to the cig lighter or something it will blow your gauges. I found that on the back of the gauge pod there are lights that twist off. if you slide the positive and negative under the light power terminals and twist it back on it will give the perfect amount of power. do this with a gauge light that comes on with the headlights and foglights ( not a warning light) it will hold pretty well too so long as you dont pull on it or anything. Other than that just be reaaaaaaaaaaallly careful taking of the needles they are a phat ho. also keep the stock light fader always on high. if you lower it, it wont give the gauges enought juice and they will flicker on and off
