Installing Tach?

I have my tach almost done but I haven't connected the wires yet. I know the black is ground, red is power, blue i think is illumination, and green i think is the one that gets the RPM stuff. I can figure out where to ground it but was hoping for suggestions on the best places to splice in the other three wires. Also is the one that tells RPM the only one that definantly has to be run into the engine bay?

The power wire should go on a wire from the ignition that is live in the run position you can find one in the ignition switch (steering wheel). The illumination wire you can tie into the dash light dimmer switch output wire so you will have control of the brightness. This wires you can find will a test light . The tach signal wire can be tied into the ignition coil or there is a wire in the dianosic connector called tach and is the tach signal from the coil.

The Diagnostic Connector is over y the battery where they hook up a computer to check codes... Your car is like my and has the ignition coil built into the distributor... I'm lookin in my Chiltons Manual, and they dont tell you what wires go to the ignotion coil for 95-98.. For the 93-94 the wire that goes to the ignitoin coil is G\W goes from the PCM to the igniter, and Y/BL goes from the igniter to the coil, then BL goes from the coil to the ignition switch... This stupid ook don't have it for 95-98.

The only thing it shows that might help for you is.... there is a V (violet) wire that goes from the PCM to the Starting Circuit.. Hopefully somebody knows more about this that I do.....

green wire , goes to the bunch of wires that are connected to the distributor plug, right on the engine , there you will see I believe a pink wire , or green , I forgot and would have to look at my car, but that is where you connect the wire and get the signal , if you do a search on this forum you will actuall find the wire ......

tachometer connection
tach wire
wires
tachometer
1995 tachometer connection

maybe these key words can help

yeah, about those wires. uhmm there is neither a green nor pink wire, there are two other colored wires that have a small green stripe and a small pink stripe. So i'm still not sure what to do. I'll do a bit more lookin on the net though also, somewhere has to be there answer.

check your diagnostic connector on the drivers inner fender if it has the label of conectoers still on the inside of the cover you can tap the one marked "tach" or "ig-". This wire is white on a 96 1.8 and comes from the dist. it is also postion "f" on the dist connector.

well i finally got it done, basically a friend that had a volt meter tested every single wire going into the distributor foudn it the wire i needed is a black wire with a light green strype on it so if anyone with a 95 pro needs to know that is the wire to use.
I only have one more problem i tied the illumination wire into the dimmer switch as someone said to do but it can't pull enough power off it to light it very much, if i disconnect the dimmer switch the dash lights go out and the tach light gets really bright so i have to figure out a way fix that but other wise it works great
