P0400 - EGR problem..

I pulled the code on my car this evening and it is a P0400, which is a EGR Malfunction. Does anyone have any idea what problem that is exactly. I am new with troubleshooting these cars, so i don't know the extents of the EGR system on this car just yet. If i were to guess, it sounds like i need a new egr valve. Are there other components to the EGR system that may be causing this error code?

THanks in advance for your time!

There's a TSB on this...known problem. Mazda's solution? Buy another one.

I see Mazda's solution is to buy another one. I haven't checked the price on one yet, but i think i have read that they are rather expensive. Is replacing it, the only option, i thought i have read about people cleaning the egr line and stuff... Is this a mazda only part, or can i get one from NAPA or some place of the sort?

THanks for the help and time,

I have had good success with removing and cleaning out GM egr's....I've never done a mazda though. I just soaked it over night in a tub of carb cleaner and in the morning took a wire brush and coat hangar and rooted around in there pulling out all of the carbon and build up I could...then used compressed air to blow it out and dry it...worked like a charm.
