I've never install these but some people in my club installed the 21.5mm on their 3rd gen and were very satisfied. On our cars I would suggest the 19mm if you don't plan to put ajustable shocks...if there is...?
REAR 19mm Sway Bars 1995-2003 Protégé
AWR fabricates a 3/4" (19mm) 2 way adjustable rear sway bar the 1995-2003 Protégé. It has a wall thickness of .20". #0000-04-3302 and a fully adjustable version with stronger, adjustable end links, #0000-04-3302-FA.
These sway bar kits also fit the 1995-98 model Protégé ES's with the 10.5" end links. This end link, Mazda part number LC62-34-170, available to racers through MAZDASPEED's Team Support program, or directly from Mazda dealers. To fit on DX or LX Protégé's, you'll need rear struts, either stock or aftermarket, for a Protégé ES. The stock rear struts on the DX and LX, (and possibly other brands) do not have a tab to connect the sway bar end link to. This is only welded on the stock ES struts. If your aftermarket strut housings do have this tab, then the sway bar will fit your car too, with the proper end links.
The sway bar brackets shown below left, are included
21.5mm SWAY BARS 1995-2003 Protégé
There is also a 7/8" (21.5mm) fully adjustable bar available with a wall thickness of .20". This stiffer bar requires stronger end links which are included and are adjustable. This is available for any of the Protégé's, but there is a special one for MP3 and MAZDASPEED. #0000-04-3303

There's also the Ractive Front Strut bar, I don't have the part# but mine is 4-5 years old and I'm still happy with it. Except you need to unscrew the battery side when disconnecting the negative cable...!
My pro have the KYB GR-2 and H&R springs about 5 years now and still going..even if my right rear shock is leaking about 2 years now but didn't noticed it while driving...anyway it's lifetime warranty. you just need to pay for the new shock while it's inspected at KYB...and they pay you back after.

Back from the dead, huh?
I like the 21.5mm bar for it's adjustability, which is a must with coilover suspension.
Have you checked out GT Spec? they make some pretty high-quality stuff for our cars' suspension. Braces, ladders etc. IMO, much nicer that Ractive.

Yeah didn't been here for a while.
For the ajustability, you could still get the ajustable end-links with the 19mm.
But adustability is no good in winter because it's going to seeze for sure.
And there's no ajustable shock for 2nd gen unless you get the MazdaSpeed if they still do it.
Anyway, I just put some mods that I feel the difference but that I can forget about it after...I'm not track racing every weekend, just daily driving with a bit more pleasure and control.
But I must say th GTSpec strut bar look pretty neat! nice!
My next mod: buy a Mazda 3 GT Sport Hatchback...
