oh yeah??? well I'm buying biknman's ENTIRE turbo setup plus bosal exhaust and corksport bumper to fit intercooler for $1500 !!!!! thats under 2K hahahahahahahahahaaha!!!!

Im driving up there to get it the last week of aug....I'll talk to him a bit about tuning and ill do the install after I get my ACT stage 1 clutch so I can handle the extra power....I'll be starting off with very low boost(like 3-4 lbs), but it should still be enought to smoke any NA 2.0 pro's out there!!....I'll be switching to synthetic gear oil,going with urethane motor mounts also to help save my tranny..then ill boost to about 7lbs...after that I plan on going with MSP springs and struts which should help with wheel hop to further help my tranny..once all thats done I'll start saving for a quaife LSD, then I'll go higher boost to about 10-11 lbs, after installing a cold start injector to supply extra fuel

I AGREE,but do you wanna LOOK fast, or be fast???? its all your preference, you figure you can spend 2k easy for cosmetics, to LOOK fast, but whats the point of looking fast if your still a stock 1.6 litre. yeah not everyone has the ability to do the install on there own, but its how bad you want it.

Yur up there too?? why dont you have a talk with andrew then and get your turbo setup??? I'll see what i can do as far as coming by but i prob wont be driving the pro,I think i might need a pickup since ill be carrying a full exhaust,front bumper,turbo, down pipe, charge pipes,fmu, BOV, boost controller,and a couple other goodies....i dont want to try and stuff that bumper in the Pro and break it...we'll see tho maybe i could fold down the seats and it might fit....I'll talk to David and ask him if it'll fit

Going for show can be far from looking fast. You don't have to look fast for show. Having a sound system and indash won't make you look fast.

After dyno testing my car and seeing no performance parts out for it, I decided to go all show with it. I chose to get a car with know performance potential.

Danny's protege doesn't look fast and its all show.

dude 1.6's can be fast. for example.. there are lots of 1.6 liter 1.7 liter civics on the road and they make them fast...im sure with the right knowledge you can make the protege 1.6 fast as well....as you know im not sure on the year but the civic si is just a 1.6 liter and its fast.....the diffrence is weight protege if they ever come out with a good weight reduction then it would be good to go...all thou the Protege stock is slow as hell...and its not fast as hell either..if you wanted to get a really fast car you got the wrong mazda...but with time and the right mods..you can get the 1.6 liter to a decent level...I was told by many people (one who owns his own preformance shop in salt lake city) He said throw Headers, High flow cat back exhaust, intake, Wet Nos kit, racing rims and low profile tires, and a weight reduction...(a body kit...carbon fiber hood...that should drop ya MAYBE 15-20 Ibs..) it should run you in the 1/4 mile...low 17's High 16's maybe less depending on altitude and driver and all that....so dont worry....just do all that to your protege like im doing and you'll be good...and the wet nos kit alone.....gave my friend (in a 1.6 liter miata) incresed his horse by like 55-65 and he only spent like 450 INSTALLED....and wet nos is very safe...well this is way long! ugh

Your comparing apples to oranges...lol


1. The Civic has madd aftermarket support, while the protege...ha
2. Their are no CF hoods for this model protege, unless you custom make one.
3. It will take A LOT of money to make this car fast.
4. Weight isn't the problem, the engine w/ lack aftermarket of support is.
5. N20 is not to be used like water. It will deteriorate the engine over time, if used too much. You're making it sound like you want to use it on a daily basis.

BTW, low 17s and high 16s is slow as constipated ****. I would be embarassed to run a time like that at the track, which is why I've never taken my protege to the track. Thats a very low goal. Heck, thats not even a goal.

i got a simota air intake (open type with a chamber that resembles the one from the stock intake but larger) for what would be around US $90 here in the philippines. it was imported from taiwan. it's bolt-on and is compatible with the sensor. i'd post pictures but i'll wait for my engine bay to be detailed first haha.

if you're going to look for it, just look for the air intake for the 1.6L ford tierra. that's what they call the ford equivalent of the protege in taiwan.

btw, even with $2000 for a turbo kit i'd rather go with a 2.0L transplant. the ford plant that manufactures 2.0L pros (for export to singapore) here says that the engine mounts are the same for the 3rd gens here (rebadged as ford lynx). i think it'd cost less for an engine swap than a turbo. also, it gives you an even higher attainable hp since a 2.0L engine can still be equipped with a turbo.

This has nothing to do with being spoon fed parts and trying to find the easy way out. Not everyone has the finance like hhhmm...Biknman..to make there 1.6l fast. He has spent 20K+ in his car. I don't make that kind of money. I completely respect him for his work, and I admire and love his creation and love his car. His car is awesome, but if I spent that much on a car *strictly* for speed, I will need to see my car hit low-11s to mid-10s "without" completely stripping my car.

If it was that simple and in interest, you would see just as many 1.6l turbos as you do 2.0s. Now even if I did have that kind of money to throw into this car, I wouldn't have the time for it, especially during the school year. I can't have that because at that point in time it was my ONLY vehicle and if I decided to do it, I would swap the 1.6 for the 2.0. Sorry to use Biknman again for example, but he has 2-3 other forms of transportation and his protege is not a daily driver. Me? nah uh.

Also, if you say that he only spent that much money because he was the first one, that isn't a strong case. Their still aren't any turbos' for this car. So, if someone wants to see that type of performance, unless they go to the same exact shop as he did and to the same person, the shop that they choose will be starting from scratch in their work. You know more than anybody that you don't just slap on a custom turbo and call it a day.

Yes, it does take a lot of money to make any car fast, but it's still more to mod a 1.6l protege that 98% of performance shops have never worked on. Trial and error is important because a lot of these shops know what to expect from a Civic, Prelude, Mustang, Eclipse, etc.

Most of us up here are not filthy rich, in case you haven't notice. I am simply letting him know what he will be getting into, especially since he's still in high school. Now if he had a second car with a decent size income, I would be a little less persistent.

I was there in his exact situation (graduated almost 2yrs ago). I wanted my protege to be fast. Heck, I even thought my protege was fast. I went to MANY shops. Some thought I was joking. Some didn't take me serious. Some said it will take time. Others told me do get better established car.

From one enthusiast to another, I was just letting him know what I've realized. So, unless your going to give me the cash to mod my protege and make a speed demon out of it, while supplying me with a loaner car, relax your brain and muscles and give it a rest.
Or you can pay for my 2yr tuiton to Lincoln Tech to learn how to build and install a turbo system myself. That way I can drive around 1/3 of the year with a half done turbo. Your choice.

I also noticed that instead of giving him helpful advice, Protege_Joe, you're here trying to flame me and put me in a box. At least I gave him my thought on the situation. A situation that I was in because I actually own a 1.6l. You have done nothing more but try and start a childish argument. If you know something that I don't know about this, then say it. I promise I won't try and flame you like you're doing to me.
I also completely admire and congratulate what 'TheGoldPro' is doing with his pro. I think it's wonderful that he chose to stay with that model pro or stay with the pro, period. I'm anxious to see what kind of power he will have in it in another year or so. I don't want him to stop what he's doing to his car.

actually you can still have a 1.6L turbo spoon fed to you...wagner motorsports makes the parts now...i would have ordered my parts from him if biknman wasnt offering me such a great deal on his kit

Unlike Honda, though, Mazda is concentrating on its rotary engines and so you won't see a B16B or a B16A equivalent for our cars. Sure, there's the GT-X engine that goes for a mad 200hp but that was a limited run. For the 3rd gen, the only engine out there is the 2.0L. Even with that, it's just 140hp for the MP3 engine. Turbo? The Mazdaspeed is only at 170hp. With a B16A for the Civic you'd be at 160hp without even doing I/H/E.

It's certainly harder for Mazda owners to compete at drag racing which is why I said that maybe you shouldn't take the Mazda out to the strip. Now if we were talking about racing that needed turning...
