I have a question on the location of the air temp sensor.

Is it the sensor in the air box?

Any reason why it is before the air meter?

Any problems having it behind the air meter?

How is the injen CAI setup? Where is the sensor located?

question #4 How is the injen CAI setup? Where is the sensor located? In the Injen set up you remove the rubber grommet that is fits through and install that grommet in the pipe and reinstall the air temp sensor.....the sensor is located BEFORE the sensor.

AEM puts the Air Temp before MAS..Might be because the Air Temp sensor is what controls the idle.

 

it does not matter really. i have seen it done in front of the MAF and behind as well. all it does is measure the air temp and so long as its getting a reading, its fine.

 

I had this idea that the mesh on the air meter creates a small amount of heat when the air passes through the mesh making the air molecules squeeze into a smaller space and affect the temp of the air going by the sensor.

Am I crazy?

If anything, heat would make the molecules occupy a larger space. Cold air is denser than hot air....or am I just mis-understanding your question?

 

YES YOU ARE....but that is a totally different matter...lol

ahhh....if the screen did in fact impart heat into the air...it would make it EXPAND not contract...and would make the air take up MORE space.

I really need to know why the air temp sensor is before the air meter?

I would assume their is a reason that the aftermarket keeps it in front of the air meter.

 

maybe THEY don't know either...and why do the reasearch to figure it out....just put in where the factory did and you can't go wrong.. :{D

 

The only plausible reason for the location of the temp sensor is to keep it away from the heat of the motor. But whereever the designer sticks it, the ECU is mapped to that location’s nominal sensor values. Relocating the sensor would likely cause the reading to vary slightly from what it would have been under the same conditions at the old location, because the air temp will change along the length of the intake runner. This could in turn cause the ECU to output a proportionally different command signal in fuel metering or timing. Although in reality, the effect would be so small it’s not going to be worth worrying about. I don’t see any reason not to relocate it if you need too. And if going FI you really do need to move it.
