Another MP3 ECU Thread

Ok, so I have a friend who (after months of begging) has agreed to swap his MP3 ECU with me, but I think I remember reading that my car has to be a 5 speed for this to work. I do have an auto, but I thought the tranny was totally mechanical, and the ECU basically just adjusts the fuel curve. I don't know a whole lot about car computers, so I thought I would ask before trying this and risk screwing up both of our cars. I REALLY want this to work, so can someone who knows a little more about this help me out?

To my knowledge the MP3 ECU will work only with a M/T.
Someone want to confirm that?

DAMMIT!! So would this rule out the possibility of me ever having my ECU reflashed to MP3 spec? Also if we were to just try this for testing purposes, what's the worst thing that could happen? Any permanent damage?

reflashing is the same thing.... what would happen? your transmission wouldn't move any. Possibly the car wouldn't even start.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info, glad I asked before I tried it.
