Any method of curing the jerkyness of the shifter on 5 spd?

I'll be getting a 2003 Protege ES on the weekend and the car is GREAT! I'm getting the 5 spd and the shifter had WAY too much play in it for my liking. I'm already thinking of installing a short shift kit, but is there anyway to 'tighten' things up when I eventually install it???

Kartboy bushings tighten things up a bit.

But Im not sure what you mean by jerkyness.

I mean that there is too much play in the shifter.

For example, it can be moved/wiggled around too much when it's in neutral, instead of just being able to move side-to-side when putting it in gear. It isn't stiff enough, it's kinda sloppy. Too loose.

Kartboy bushings make it less rubbery when you go from one gear to the other.

As far as being too loose, I have tried civics, jettas and cavaliers and they are all looser. But maybe thats because of the kartboy. I cant remember what it was like before. But I don't recall that changing when I installed the bushings.

With a good short-throw shifter and the Kartboy shifter bushings, you will be satisfied.
