The reason I am asking is that I have already gone almost 50000kms on plat 4's and no real issues yet. I will be doing a change soon and was wondering if those cheap champion plugs (copper plus) will be ok. At $3.75 for 2 compared to $16.99 for 2 plat 4's, you do the math. Since I'll have to gap these ones, where can I find the gap specs? On other cars I loked under the hood and they were in plain view, but I am soon going home and will need to find the plug spec. Thanks to anybody who cares!

 

Think the gap is .044, it is for the 1.5L and 2.0L. Why Champions? Just curious, as I thought we were all NGK afficianados here. Champion seems so. . . . . GM.

 

I DIDN'T KNOW THESE CRAPPY PLUGS WERE STILL BEING MADE.IF YOU WANT A PLUG THAT MISFIRE WHEN THE ENGINE GETS HOT-THESE ARE FOR YOU. THIS PLUG'S LASTING POWER WAS OK IN THE SEVENTIES WITH BIG V-8 ENGINES TURNING 2,000 RPMS OR LESS AT 60 MPH. BUT NOT FOR ANYTHING WITH HIGH REVS. IF YOU DON'T GET NGK(WHICH ARE THE BEST FOR THE PRO APPLICATION-IMO) THEN GET EITHER BOSCH OR AUTOLITE... UNLESS OF COURSE YOU LIKE BUYING MORE OF THAT $3.00 + A GALLON PETROL-THEN USE THOSE CHAMPS.THERE IS NOTHING "CHAMPION" ABOUT THESE PLUGS AND YOU SURE WON'T GO THE "DISTANCE"...FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS AND CARES!!!

Champion sucks. In the '80s, when I worked on 60's and 70's hotrods, I had three separate occasions where one plug out of a new set was completely dead. Couldn't keep one in the number two cylinder of a small block chevy for 3000 miles either (sb Chevys were always hard on #2). Never used them since.

 

NGK's the only way to go for Japanese.

 

How about Denso? My first change, I had Denso. Even after 50000kms, the plugs looked awesome! Are these sold in stores, or dealer only. I've seen bosch, motomaster, NGK, champion ect

 

Mazda puts Champions in new Miata engines- the reality is that there's not really much difference at all from one brand of plug to the next. As long as the gap is set to spec and the electrodes aren't eroded, they should all work fine.

 

Plugs are plugs. I dont really see any difference w/ 4 prongs vs 2 prongs. I assume any brand you use should work the same. But IMHO the oem NGK's are best for our cars. For my Miata, I like changing it every 15k miles w/ NGKs thats why I never really bother to get the platinums or iridiums.
