Can I just build my own MS pro?

I have been a mazda guy since day one. I currently own three. Unfortunetly I test drove a spec v and now I am soooo hooked on the hp and torque that it has. So my question is; Seeing as I hate turbo lag, and Kenwood Car Audio products, and I couldn't care less for the wing on the MS protege, What do I need to do to make a brand new lx go as fast or close to a spec v. NO TURBOS please!!! I hate cars that are slow off the line. I already know what I am gonna do for wheels, tires, and suspension, I just need info on what I can do to make a 2.0L go zoom zoom. I know I am asking alot but.....

One word. Supercharger. build the suspension, put larger wheels and tires on it and put a blower on it. Then go sleeper someone with a new MS Protege.

My plans exactly. Good to see someone else sees things the same as me. Who makes a supercharger for the mazda 2.0L?

As far as I know, nobody makes a supercharger for the Protege. There just isn't a whole lot of extra room for a supercharger in a transverse mounted engine. There's certainly no room above the engine. To the rear, the intake manifold is in the way. And, to the front, there's some room, but you have to deal with the exhaust and radiator heat and somehow plumb to the intake. I know companies have looked into it, but there just isn't a feasible way.

I don't think the Protege can be as fast as a Spec-V without resorting to F/I. Since you don't like turbos and superchargers are very difficult I guess the only way is to tune your suspension sys. so you beat spec-v in mountain roads.

I guess I could always go NOS but can the 2.0 handle say a 25 or 50 shot safely?

I've seen a bunch of people in here (mainly Pro5's) that are running 50-shots without any problems. I know a few of them are going to upgrade to 75-shots.

From my limited scope of experience it does seem the 2.0 can handle say a 25 to 50 shot, but what about other parts? Clutch,drivetrain,etc. There has got to be a way!! I want a fast pro!!

car makers put quite a bit of tolerance in drivetrains, as long as you dont use it all the time

you probably won't be using nos for more than 15 secs at a time

a bottle won't last more than a few minutes and they are expensive

unless you are real rich and carry around 10 bottles at a time, you CAN'T use it all the time

Another option I guess I could do would be to drop a fsze engine in say a 2001 that way I could get the new body style but it wouldn't be as if I was hacking up a brand new car. I know the HP on that motor is around 170 but anyone know what the torque is? I wonder if I would void my warranty? It is a mazda engine......

You won't get 170 hp from a fs-ze because you cannot get the computer from japan easily. Even if you can, the harnesses and the OBDII system won't work. It will cost much more than it is worth. You will probably have to go with stand-alone to maximize performance of the engine.

If you using using that kind of money, you could get a well-tuned turbo with minimal turbo lag. Personally, I love turbos...

If Oscar Jackson would get off his *** and build us a supercharger it would fit. His roots systems have a built in manifold. Look at the supercharged SCC civic, as well as all of the Miatas and Ford Foci. OBDII refers to the computer system. Japanesse stuff won't work with our stuff. If you wanted the FSZE you could always get a stand alone such as the Haltec system. It should be able to be tuned to get FSZE horsepower outa it. You could also get the cams, much higher compression pistons and a standalone system. I am going turbo. Much more potential and a properly tuned system will perform great. Goto your bookstore and buy "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. Its a great insight to the potential to turbo systems and it also presents theories and installations of turbo systems. I bought it per TheMan's recommendation and its great. Thanks Edwin.
