Coil Pack

So you've still got the code after relacing the coils....when you replaced the coils did you also get the code erased? i.e. reset the ecu, unplug the battery, etc. Try that and see if it doesn't work. Codes will stay in the memory for 10 cycles if you don't erase them or reset the ecu, regardless of if you fixed the problem or not.

Did you check your spark plugs or wires? Could just be the wires are shorting out somehwere, or there reisitance is too high.
The 1.8l coils are supposed to be a good upgrade, seems to be all the rage in japan.
I know it shoudn't make a diffrence as long as the plugs arent misfireing. But could more power be squeezed out with the better coild packs? Possibly though raising the spark plug gap? Any estimations.

Usually, stock wires are just fine for any kind of OEM coil pack. It's when you get a capacitve discharge amplifier than you'd need new wires. I've been running stock wires just fine on an MSD 4-Tower Coil pack. But check the resistance of each wire, most of the time the one(or two...) that is bad will have higher resistance than the other 3. Wires are cheap, just get a good set that is not too expensive($60 max) and you'll be fine. Also check your plugs for fouling, if they are fouled you've more than likely have another problem that needs addressing besides just replacing the plugs.

Yeah, I replaced coils, plugs and wires, and ofcource reset ecu. Where can i find info about recalls MC was talking about?
EDIT: I have found couple of websites with no mention of recalls associated with rough idle or coil pack

i havern;t seen them on websites either but my dealer did it for me on my 100 000km service... LOL... i wasn;t complaining.. it was mis firing badly @ one stage so i took it without even tellin em about it and got it all fixed for free so caint complain hehe

you replaced all that and you're still having problems? hmmmmm, are they direct replacement coils? or did you have to wire them in yourself? if you did, check the wiring. What kind of spark plugs did you put in? Mazda's can be pretty tempermental with the kind of spark plugs you put in...no matter what anyone tells you, don't use platinum spark plugs. Platinums are hotter plugs and our engines are made to be run on colder plugs like copper or nickel. You can pick those up at any NAPA or Advanced Auto Parts for about $10 or less(Autozone doesn't carry them). Maybe your ignition module is bad? i dunno, if nothing i suggested here helps then its time to take it to a mechanic.
oh, make sure you got your plug wires on the correct cylinders. i know i've made that mistake...

I think I have figured it out:
Today after a good night sleep I got myself am intake cleaner and started spraying it to places where intake manifold meets with engine block, and what do u know, engine speeds up whenever I spray close to where 3rd cylender is in the engine and intake manifold...
Question: does anyone encountered same problem and whats the price on the gasket?

ThermoBlocker is a set of phenolic spacers to keep the intake and TB 'cooler' (blocks heat from the engine). Feel the manifold after a run - it is hot. Cooler intake air =better.
The VTCS removal gives peace of mind that the screws won't back out and go shooting through the engine. Perhaps even a minor hp booost as it won't be in the gas path anymore...

I hope everyone knows there is a recall for the screws coming out of the VTCS rod on 03's (2.0 Protege' and P-5)
The screw will fltten the electrode on random plugs and cause a sure misfire.
There is still a recall on coil pacs on 1.8 coils.
