coilpack conversion

hi, have the 1.8L ES that has the weird coil pack setup where they're situated with them being on a bracket in front of the engine with a wire setup. Was wondering if there was anyway to just go ahead and use a coilpack setup that does away with the ignition wires and has the coilpacks right above the plugs like in the 01-03 2.0L engines.Or you think I could just nab the packs off a 2.0L protege and use those? Wouldn't there be some sort of ECU swap required? Mainly wana do it for asthetic reasons, so if it's going to be an involved swap I probaly won't go through it, but if it's just a bolt-on thing...

also, would autozone or advanced autoparts have the OEM NGK wires for the 1.8L ES you think?

if I can't do the conversion it's about time to change the wires real soon anyway, they're starting to show abnormal wear.

stick with what you got.....heatsoak form the valve cover can affect the life of the coilpacks...there are guys with newer proteges that convert to your older style for that reason

Finally! One red dangerous Mustang! Unfortunately, showing that avatar negates "grouphood" (no longer a pro!)

Still cool though....

Mike may not have his Pro any more, but it's still pretty cool that he hangs around
and helps out. I don't mean to threadjack a second time, but this forum has been hanging by a thread for a long time and Mike is one of the long-timers still here.

We lost Karen (Phantom Cruiser--she doesn't show up anywhere anymore), Matty,
Phil (JDM-P5 is overseas) and a couple of other members who were regulars but bought different cars.

I dunno -- not much, he's been a member longer than I have and has only one-fourth as many posts.
Maybe I'm the post-*****.
