Does The FS-DE Like Cold Air?

Well, I said in my other post (about MAF Icing) that my intake pipe was frosted right over. The temperature this morning was -21*C on the way to school! I know cold air = performance (and I noticed it too! Drove the car REAL hard this morning! )But how cold is too cold? (Btw, I'm not worried or anything, just curious.) Hell, I'd even force feed my engine air that was -70*C if I could, but is there a limit to how cold of air an engine can take? When you think about it, you're taking air that's like -20*, and in less than a second, it's at +150* after combustion.

There must be some limiting factor saying that air is too cold for combustion or something. Any science geeks out there?

Once the engine is warmed up it will heat up the ambient air and won't be as cold as the outside temp. The cold air will be good for the engine, but not for the fluids in the car. At lower temps, the oil starts to thicken and will take longer for it to reach the vital parts of the engine. That would be the only thing that I would be concerned about. Since the air you and your engine breathes is a gas, it will be fine. When it gets cold enough for the air to liquify, which will never happen outside of a lab, you should worry. It's never going to get that cold where you live.

yea, that makes sense, the only you might want to be worried about is the other fluids freezing or getting tooo cold or whatever. but, why dont you just say screw it and go snowboarding...

OT i know, but still, weather like that is just beggin to be boarded in

PS. some may not be able to relate

Zacky,

I can relate all right! We've already got a 60cm base up in the mountains after like 2 days of snow!

What do you ride? I got a new setup last year. Ride System 159, with some Ride Preston LX's to hold me on, and a set of Forum Devun Walsh's to keep the feet toasty! Can't wait to get out there and bust some phat 7's! (I wish!) LOL!

hahah, sweet! yea im pullin 7s all day (naw im just BSing too), I had a Ride concept before but i got a whole new setup at awesome freakin prices for this year. I got a M3 Cap 151, last year(but brand new) Burton CFX bindings, they have dope straps. I wanted the Ride SPis or soemthing but couldnt find my size. I got the bindings for 100, board at 200. I also got the grey Forum JP Walkers brand new also for 100. Its a really dope deal i think for all new stuff. I really like he setup and the M3 is snappy as hell and has some really good pop.

But yea ive never paid full price for any of my boarding stuff. I always go to conventions or shows out here in southern CA and just get really good deals on last years stuff. Like i bought 2 pairs of ride SPis for 100 each!! im sellin em on ebay as we speak.

Sorry for goin OT, but its snowboaring, you cant deny it
