I did a search, and did not get the info I wanted. It just said its a pain to install. Has anyone installed one, or know how to do it. I was thinking about getting one due to living in Maine. I found a pic of it, but its not very helpfull. Thanks

 

I can't even remember ever seeing a thread on this before....its OBVIOUS that it gets screwed into the block into a water passage......and if you found someone saying its a pain....I would guess its in a rather inaccessable place......do you know anyone at a dealer that works in their shop? or do you by chance have a GOOD dealer in your area that you could go down to their shop and they could SHOW you where the plug is that needs to be removed and that screwed into? That is my only suggestion.....

 

We get block heaters as standard equipment here in Winnipeg........so i'll check where they installed mine and let you know....the one of my old 2 L 626 was found on the front of the engine (just above the exhaust manifold) they don't use screws they use these two pinch points that tighten up gainst the inside of the engine when you tighten this one screw (oh yeah you have to one of the frost plugs)

what i meant to say is...."you have to remove one of the frost plugs that are in the side of the engine to get it to work).

 

Oh yeah Phillips & Temro make a whole bunch of different block heater style water heaters for cars they have inline ones that would hook up with your lower rad hose and they have magnetic heating elements that attach to the oil pan to keep the oil warm......i foudn that they make the easiest to install block heaters because they work like an expansion plug....anywho if you find that the dealer wants too much for the block heater try to get something from them it shouldn't be that hard to install one of their other products.

 

When I got my car I had the dealer install a block heater and mud flaps. It cost me $200 for both with installation.

Whenever you have it installed ask that the plug comes out behind the front license plate holder. The plate holder is hollow in the back so I just have the plug sitting in there. This way you there is no ugly plug dangling from your grill. When they installed mine the plug came out 3-4 inches to the right of the plate holder so you can still see a wire going from that point to behind the plate holder.
