engine swap

So i have a 2000 protege dx w/ a 1.6L and want to swap because the car is sloooooow.

Will the 1.8L BPTurbo swap in? OR

The FS-ZE, but corksport says it's doesnt fit the dx. OR

The only one that corksport has for the 99+ dx/lx is the 1.5L ZL-VE. Or

Last option is too sell the car and get something way faster or more cylinders.

I would rather get the BPTurbo, because i can get the whole front clip of that car for cheap and has more ponies then the other two.

Any info about it would help. Thanks

i dont think the bp would fit.. to make it fit will require some extensive work to get it in .. wagnermotorsports offers a turbocharger kit for the 1.6 we have.. i cant get ti cause i have an automatic .. workin on switching to 5speed so i can get it..

the options we have is to put the 1.8 or the 2.0 will fit ... u have to get a front clip to fit these engines in because u need everything in the front clip to make it happin..

i plan on just playin around with my car then selling it.. i want to get the mazda speed maita.. its the next car there turbochargering.. i think the mazda 6 is after that and the rx8 or 3 will get it.. ... they are gonna try and offer most of there cars with a speed version..

hope this helped you out

You can turbo an auto, whats the problem. The tranny can handle the torqe and the car readily goes to redline. Whats the problem?

The zl-ve should work nice and bolt right up if you want it. It would get you a nice 130hp, dont know anyone thats done a swap yet though.

Ill probubly go turbo myself more power, ya know.

You could also tune up your auto-tranny with things like a shift kit that should knock about a second off your 1/4mile, and prolong the life.

thanks for the info, the ZL-VE isn't worth my time and $ with only 130hp. I've seen the wagner turbo, I'm not impressed, i could custom make a better turbo system. I've decided to sell the car because there aren't that many parts for the 1.6L out on the market. I'm going to buy a better car, but thanks for the info.

ShogunProtege you have to do a rebuild on the tranny to get that kit installed and there not cheap.

While the tranny is weak you can still get something in the range of 160hp on it so with the cars 77hp starting power you should have no problem boosting it quite nicely.

Jster come back and tell us what car you decide on. When I first got the thing I hated it with a vengence because it was so slow but its grown on me in time.

I dont get it...you're willing to spend the money to do an FS-ZE swap but not the wagner turbo, which IS a good kit, especially considering you can pretty much double hp on 5-6 psi and not even be intercooled...not to mention pretty cheap as turbo kits go...if you can come up with your own t25 you can get all the parts for the kit for about $900....

macdaddy i orginally wanted a FS_ZE and turbo that because i wanted to push at least 250-300hp. And i'm not trying to dog on the wagner kit or anything, but i can make a less costly kit.

Zerocover, I'm considering a 93 MR2 turbo, but after thinking about it, i'm going to keep the Pro as a commuter car.

macdaddyslomo,

5-6psi will add nearly 50% more power on well designed system.

100% more power requires approx just under 15 psi (i.e. 1 atm of boost)

yeah but for the zl-ve you need the ecu, and where the hell r you gonna get that???, the wagner kit is a nice kit, i have one, and the work is awesome. if you wanted awesome amounts of power you should have bought a v8, not a freaking 1.6 litre. its your own fault.

I am not wrong....the proof is in the pudding...check out threads on this very board by biknman...he was dyno'ing at 150-160 hp at the wheels on 5-6 psi with the wagner kit....i believe that is double considering the ZM-DE dyno's at around 75-80 hp...sometimes just trying to do the math wont present real-world results....different engines respond to boost differently, and your little math problem doesnt even take into account the overall static pressure inside the cylinders...the ZM-DE has 9:1 compression which will net more power than an average 7.5:1 compression nets in your average stock turbo engines...i hate when newbies to the board come on here and try and act like they know more, when there are already documented results

Sorry if I offended you. Cleary nothing personal.

Newbie in terms of registration or posts dosen't necessarily mean I didn't spend a lot time reading before I wrote. I've read most of your posts. I digress, too much space on many forums is wasted countering egos...

Static compression cancels out of the equation assuming it's the same before and after the turbo. It's a non-factor.

If you haven't already, check out Maximum Boost by Bell. It's a good start.

THEGOLDPRO, can you tell me a lot more about the Wagner kit?

Thanks
