Engine Swap, yet another question!
#16
what I was suggesting was that if you're going to go through the trouble of finding, buying and modifying the parts to fit in that chasis you might start with a better platform....
I know for peak power the bp-t is a great choice but for budget racing with great results a 2.5L swap would be pretty stout.
A custom exhaust, a little spray and let 'er rip.

yea, i already scratched the swap off
is not worth it, i thought it was gonna be something super huge...but theres just too much involved.
regarding the parts for sale on msprotege
most of them got stolen. yea, sux!
i have a few that i manage to salvage including a msp turbo kit
this is not a forsale thread...so if you are interested let me know and i'll follow proper procedures on the selling of these items

it would probably be cheaper to find a 99-00 1.6L manual and boost it...lighter car to begin with too, and all the 3rd gen suspension parts fit...you can get one with decent miles now for about $3K

Stop!
Its good to see no one keeps up to date with anything.
The 1.6l swap is cake. The only thing you need to do is to swap the passenger side motor mount. Everything else is the same. Bolts right in!
The hard part is the wiring harness but its not so bad. You need to take out your dash. Lifes easier that way.
The V6 swap is even easier. You get to keep all your motor mounts. But the wiring is a bit harder. Similar concept take wiring harness from donor car and get it in there.
There is a company in canada that does kl swaps for proteges. Takes them 3 days, problem is you need to get the car to them. Theres talk of a simple wiring harness adapter which would make swaps easy they haven't released it yet.
To wrap up
Zm-DE and KL swaps are direct bolt ins.
YOu keep your tranny and everything.
Wiring is tough as you pretty much need to gut the car to run the wires all over.
Also witchdoctor has demonstrated that the turbo 1.6 has no problem hitting over 40 mpg.

different 1.6L..I believe some internals do swap though, like pistons...stockers have been proven to handle like 20lbs though, with enough fuel to support it...
#27
Yeah but I've seen one dyno like 185whp at 17psi.. I'm making that much (possibly more but I hope not much more) at 7.5psi on the FS-DE
#28
umm no you didnt...I'm throwing the brown flag...on a crappy setup with just an FMU for fuel control, a ZM makes 185whp at like 7psi
biknman(the first turbo ZM ever) made like 150hp on like 4.5 psi on a T25
17psi on a ZM is going to put down like 285hp, not 185
#29
wha?
17 psi only takes you to 185?
damn....why?!
i was thinking somewhere along the line sof 250whp at least!
ok, anyone knows if the fs-de tranny bolts right into the 1.6l?
coz if not, then is not worth it...having custom cv-joints made is too much trouble.

hell, if it makes 280hp hell yeah is worth it!
F*%&*% piece of S#$%# FSDE motor from hell! i hate it!
if the tranny bolts up, then it will be a good swap
i don't care about ECU swaps, and i live in florida, no emmisions..
