Bellhousing swap is all you need in the tranny area.. but getting the KL to work in an OBD-II car makes me cry inside

Hmm they definitely did. Maybe they are just really hard to find in junkyards or something. The 626 through at least 97 had it.

I wonder, too, but check the numbers:

P5 curb weight = 2716lbs, weight distribution = 60/40%, so that's 1630/1086lbs
MSP curb weight = 2843lbs, weight distribution = 63/37%, so that's 1791/1052lbs
MP3 curb weight = 2725lbs, weight distribution = 62/38%, so that's 1690/1035lbs

That makes the P5 161lbs lighter (than the MSP) up front and 34lbs heavier out back. Of course there are only two significant digits in the weight distribution figures, but if you do the error analysis it comes out to +/-15lbs.

then it should already be OBDII compatible....although I'd most likely just run a built megasquirt on it for simplicity.

hey just to add onto the v6 swap..i study the swap like a book and spoke to two fast a dozen times...no body has ever done a auto swap so the informtaion i have only pertains to a manual trans...

the bell housing for the trans needs to be changed but bolt right up..the motor is a direct fit no moding of any metal...and the klze was never an obd2 motor but the kl06 was made up until 2001 or 2002..the obd1 wiring harness is easier to mate up but for emissions the obd2 can be done but if i remember correctly the gauges are a bit off the rocker..you cant use the factory tack and the wring is the hardest part i would purchase 2 harness's and the diagrams and pre make them before the swap is attempted. and before you dropped the motor i would throw headers and have the heads ported and polished...also you need the half shafts from the v6 along with everything under the hood...the power steering componets are important to have from the v-6...you can use a miata radiator or the v-6 donor....and i did have a question anybody think you could use the probe 1996-1997 ecu then you could hack into it and tune with a safc....and finally turbo would be a hard task on the kl even in the probes its a pain but they do make a super charger kit for the kl series motors though : )

I'd make my own if I went through with it.

How badass would that be though.....a p5 with a 2.5L V6 under the hood. I'd love it.

Yeah it would be fairly badass, but I really do like the fact that I still get 34mpg highway

V6 P5 FTW though.. as much as I don't like forced induction, it does serve it's purpose by letting me have a fast daily driver that can be very economical when needed.

it should be fun!
There's a guy on msprotege that did a 1.6L to 2.0L swap...that should give you a pretty darn good idea of anything involved in swapping from 2.0 to 1.6

Not only did he swap 1.6 - 2.0, he also swapped auto to manual, AND tan interior to full MSP interior.

His car looks friggin sweet but dayum that's a lotta money spent to 'upgrade' to what a lot of people started out with.
