Engine Swaps

I have a question about engine swapping!! I never did it before so I'm not too keen on the idea!! But I just wanna know what kind of engine would fit in my 02 pro sedan and would be fast!?!? I been thinking that it's not worth putting all the money into an engine that would cost me 1000's in mods to make it fast when I can buy one engine that would be faster stock than if I did all the mods to the engine I have now!! Then I can put 1000's in mods and make it super fast!! I was wondering if an acura rsx engine would fit but I don't how to tell!! It may be a stupid question to you guys but I just don't know how to tell!!

Thanks

The corksport link isn't working.

Its not stupid if you know what you're doing.

If you want to stay with Mazda engines, I would say the BPT or KL-ZE. I wouldn't get the FS-ZE, becuase I think it'll just be cheaper to get the parts off that engine.

If you want anything else, most engines that can fit in a civic will most likely fit, BUT anything you do will be A LOT of money and will require modifications. I was also told a sr20 will fit with modifications.

You don't just swap another engine. You'll have to change bunch of other things like the transmission, axles, drill mounting points for the new engine, etc.

It will be better to get another car IMO.

ok, but how about this question?

Does anybody know of engines that have been successfully swapped into a Protege? Are there any writeups on the Web or in magazines?

I mean, you see an engine swap just about every month in Sport Compact Car, but never a Mazda.

Nah forget RSX-S, go with the Lancer Evolution's 4G63 instead, it may be just a bit cheaper than buying an Evo.

Not only is that engine in the EVO.. but it's in every Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, GST. And Eagle Talon TSi and Galant VR4. But this is getting way out of hand... you can put any engine in any car if you have the money... just don't expect engines to drop right in without any modification.

Sure an K20A2 engine from an RSX Type-S will fit but making it work is another story.

Quite hostly I think it will cost you more to swap an RSX engine into a Protege than it will to sell your Protege and buy an RSX. You could proabably even buy an RSX and keep your Protege for the amount of money it will cost to do the swap.

I agree, this is getting way out of control...

How to put a Honda engine in your Protege in 4 easy steps:

1. Park the car on a railroad crossing...

2. Position the front of the vehicle in which it is covering the tracks themselves...

3. Get the **** out of the car...

4. Rebuild the entire front sub frame/frame to Honda specs and place the engine in the car...

Its easy...

If you are really that interested in doing a unique swap, just PM Braden from BLT (Barely Legal Transplants). I think his screen name is "Turboge". He should be able to give you an answer easily.

The name of his company says is all.

No.. same exact head, same exact bottom end... just different turbos and injectors... and it is reversed... meaning the intake is on the other side.

omg if you want to get that technical. It is the same damn thing. Same spec valves, intake/exhaust ports, etc. It is a 4G63. It is a 7-bolt which is basically the 2nd Gen eclipse/talon 4G63 with a 16G turbo instead of a T25 and has larger injectors.

EDIT: Btw, when I said the intake is on the other side, I meant the actual cold side from IC to T-body... not the intake manifold.

You have to be technical with engine differences, "technically" it is different. If you wanted a replacement 4G63 for a 96 GS-T, you would not want the EVO's 4G63...

It's kind of like the FS's in different Mazda's. they are similar but they are not identical...I think that is what he meant...
