I just finished installing my Findanza...

Everything went smoothly...although I would not recommend doing this install unless you have a hot plate...You will have to heat the flywheel to be able to properly fit it to the crank.

The acceleration is quicker and there is no noticeable diffrence in idle quality.

For downshifting, the car slows a little faster if you take your foot off the gas...but its not that drastic of a change...

Worth every penny!!!!

A hot plate is a little device that heats up whatever you put on it...this is necessary to expand the aluminum flywheel for the most precise fit possible.

 

Yeah, I have the Tripoint flywheel and I was telling everyone on the MP3 site that it was the best mod I did. A hot plate is simply like a stove burner, just gets hot so you can sit something on it to heat it up. You never took Chemistry? hehe

 

Got it from Tripoint Engineering. www.tripointengineering.com Don't think it is on the site though. Was like $385. Weighs exactly 7.42 lbs. Stock flywheel weighed in at about 18.5 lbs.

Hmm, I need some clarification here. Greddy917, you got the Fidanza flywheel for the 2.0L 2nd gen Probe from RR Racing right? Isn't that flywheel 225mm in diameter? NC_MP3, do you know what the diameter of the Tripoint flywheel is? I was under the impression that the Proteges had a smaller 200mm flywheel and clutch disc.

 

Actually I just went out and measured the stocker and it is 225mm for sure.

Yes, that is the one I got from RR Racing.

 

So the G15M-R transaxles in the '01+ 2.0L Proteges use the larger input shaft and 225mm flywheel and clutch disc. Damn, so it's probably just the '95-'00 1.8L Proteges with the F25M-R transaxles that use the smaller input shaft and 200mm flywheel and clutch. Now I need to find out if the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same on the 1.8L FP and 2.0L FS engines.

 

so what about the flywheel from corksport? does anyone know how it compares?

Yes, It's chromoloy steel, not aluminum. It weighs 15lbs which is the same as the stock 1.8L FP flywheel and 3lbs lighter than the 2.0L FS flywheel. Not really worth it, IMHO.

The '99-'00 1.8L Proteges use the F25M-R transaxle while the '01+ 2.0L Proteges use the G15M-R transaxle. It appears the F25M-R uses a smaller 200mm flywheel and clutch disc than the G15M-R's 225mm flywheel and clutch disc. Since the MazdaSpeed flywheel was made for a special edition Sport 20 2.0L FS-ZE engine in Japan, I assume it is the 225mm size and won't fit the 1.8L Proteges. Neither will the Tri Point or Fidanza flywheels. This may be the only option for the 1.8L Proteges. http://www.shaneracing.com/

also, after some looking at the miata forum and doin some serchin, i got a fidanza and new clutch kit for my 1st gen. its for the 1.6 miata, and evidently will fit fine for my 1.8.

the clutch disc is 200mm, but the friction surface on the fidanza is larger - 215mm

is this norm? i thought the clutch disc and friction surface would both be 200mm???

i've haven't installed yet....

 

That doesn't sound right. The two sizes should be the same to mate correctly.
