Flex-A-Lite fan is in! *dial-up beware*
I've had this fan for a few weeks now, but we finally got around to putting it in yesterday. This fan is designed for the Ford Focus, but we have found that it works just as well on the Protege5 and the Miata too! Needless to say, we installed fans on all three types of cars yesterday, but I will only bore you with pictures of the Protege5 install.
Here is how it went.
taking the 2 stock fans out:
comparing the 2 stock fans to the 1 FAL:
comparing the width of the fans:
fans out, watch for coolant drips!
aerial view of fan placement:
side view of fan placement:
another view:
view from the other side:
It's amazing how well the yellow matches the car!

looks very nice. Are you only going to run 1 fan or two? Also, what gcs said....what was involved with bolting it up? I'm going to look at getting a pair.
Good job, thanks for adding to our community.

We did not have to cut the factory wiring harness. We hooked into the DRIVER'S side plug since this appeared to be the primary fan. Took 2 male connectors and filed about 1/16th of an inch of metal off each plug and plugged it into the female factory connector. It automatically cycles on when the a/c comes on or when the coolant reaches the proper temperature. We used $7 mounting tabs from the auto parts store:
they actually look pretty good:
total time for mod=30 mins
This fan substitutes for both factory fans on a Focus. It outflows both of them combined. We intend only to run one fan.

wow, I don't think I will use only one fan. One fan is for the radiator and the other fan is for the AC condensor....well I take that back...the fans have to draw through both the radiator and condensor. I won't trust my personal vehicle to just one fan....not in the hot, humid Alabama summer.

FYI - When you turn on the A/C, both fans come on even if temps are below normal operating range. We will see how it goes. So far on a Focus we have noticed a 10-15 degree coolant temp drop using the adjustable fan control and only one fan.
