Forced Induction or NA?, I want more power !

The past couple of weeks I have had the need for more power for some reason. I want to look as all possibilitys. I am looking at getting 150-210whp. I already have an cheap Ebay intake, cat-back and short shifter but I need more. Next is headers, cams, and motor mounts. After that what else is left?
1. I like the WOMP supercharger but me and the wife arent sure we can part with the A/C. Here in Europe I can do with out it but when I come back home the Florida heat can be a little to much.
2. Turbos are great but I dont know if I am ready to put out the loot. Cant really piece together a turbo.
3. Nitro is out of the question. Good for sperts but I like to have the power all the time
I got about a 3k limit...any sugestions?

i would have your IM manifold extrude hone ported and polished, remove the VCTS plate system, Extrude hone P&P your head with stage 2 gasket matching to the IM, buy a nice header, have custom cams made secificcaly for your car, new valves, new springs, and possibly the Haltech F10X to control the horrible fuel curve and AFR's.

that should cost right around $3000 assuming you do all the labor yourself. You should be sitting right about 150whp. Enjoy.

go to www.extrudehone.com to get an idea of their automotive polishing processes....it's VERY effective. I know on the 2.5L ford V6 EH polishing of the intake manifold ONLY made 30bhp. Imagine if you did the intake and head at the same time and had it gasket-matched to optimize flow!!

That site is pretty nice. The concept looks like a winner. Unfortunatly I cant do with out my car. Does anyone know how much a used head and manifold that I could send to them to get polished?

Are you working at the NATO base in Belgium? With 3 grand to spend, you are extremely close to buying a decent turbo kit. Keep saving up until you relocate back to the states then get yourself a turbo. It would be awesome driving a turbocharged pro along the autobahn though.

I have been told that a complete port match of the head will gain about 20-30whp. And the more mods you have the better the results.

about 3K will get you a turbo kit.....what's the problem..otherwise it will be VERY difficult to achieve close to 200 whp on an NA setup with that budget

200whp N/A is very impressive. Even with a Honda where the base HP is higher to start. 10 and 11 second N/A Hondas usually don't push more than 250whp.

YES you can piece together a turbo kit. In fact you can save quite a bit of cash if you aren't paying for the name.

turbo, manifold, wastegate(if the turbo isn't internally wastegated), downpipe, bov, intercooler (optional, but probably necessary for 200+whp), piping, fmu, oil lines, tap the oil pan. There's a few other little things I'm sure.

I don't know how much boosted HP a stock Protege bottom end can handle though, the other guys could probably tell you that one.

Keep in mind, a 200whp N/A car will be faster than a 200whp turbo car.

Hope that helped

Roddimus is right, porting, extrude honing and port matching will get some nice gains. But the domestics (not to put them down) typically have really crappy flow numbers from the factory, so this type of work to them generally nets bigger gains.

But it will definitely help any car

What Honda HP is higher to start ?? an SI ??... Not going to call b/s but please show me a 10 second Honda with only 250whp...what do they weigh like 1000 lbs ??

Motorcycles that runs 10's have like 120+ whp and only weigh like 300-400 lbs

Good point. I guess we will have to see what he has to say. I am also curious to see what kind of gains he got.
