FS-ZE ECU Questions
What does the Familia have that our Proteges don't to make the ecu give us the full potential of an FS-ZE swap? If I was to acquire an ecu that was originally meant for the FS-ZE, would it work in my car?

The FS-ZE ECU is of the OBD-1 type, so as being a completely different diagnostic/ECU system (with much less hassles and emissions control then our US bound Proteges), it is unlikely the harnesses will mate up at all with your car. Somebody, I think it was either Jeremy D or the other Jeremy from VA (both with the FS-ZE swaps), got an OBD-1 ECU from corksport and it was useless, and the car wouldn't run. That is what I remember overhearing at one of the MAPPs regarding this. Converting everything that depends on an OBD-II system to work, to run on an OBD-1 will be far from automatic and you'll have to be a wizard with what every pin coming off the ECU represents.
Additionally, I can't tell from the pic, but I'm guessing you have an LX rather than an ES, right? If you're starting with the 1.6 liter engine there are ALOT of parts that would need to be replaced on your car for the FS-ZE to mate up to your car in the first place, ALOT, it wouldn't be cost effective at all to do an FS-ZE swap if you started with a 1.6. Also, since the OBD-1 ECU won't work on your car, obviously your 1.6 liter ECU won't work with the FS-ZE at all, since its settings are for a Z series engine not an F series engine.
It's worth looking into but its... really a big hassle for a minimal gain compared to a custom turbo setup or.. just buying an ES in your color and swapping your kit + mods over, at least you'd have the right starting point then for an FS-ZE swap if you were to do that.

well said tradr!
P2K,
feel free to figure out (in detail) what is necessary to revert to OBDI and use the FS-ZE ecu. I know there's a couple of us here that would appreciate it After you're finished with the ecu conversion, you can solve the mysteries of time travel or flying rods http://www.flyingrods.com/galleryfl/index.asp
