WTF is that right

Ok our good friend at TKT told me in an e-mail that the J-SPEC FS-ZE could only handle 3-5 PSI any more and it would fail and the US version would fail at 7-8 PSI he said the pistons and rods were very weak. now I know the US version in my mp3 cant handle no 11-12 psi without changing the rods and pistons out but I find that hard to believe in the J-SPEC does anyone know or have the facts? because I think he is full of

actually, hes right... and i own an mp3 too... the ze has more compression which means less boost can be handled. But do not worry, theres no real need for high boost if you get a real good fuel management system. Example: Flying Miata Turbo kits. 9psi good FMU, 235 wheel horsepower miatas....

you would be suprised

I heard from corksport that the fuel system is what can't handle higher boost in our 2L's. I have a P5 and they are making two kits for all 3rd gen proteges. the first kit runs at 6psi or so and the second runs at 11 or 12psi. They say the FS engine its self is very strong (it was first designed for a truck!) and the pistons and connecting rods can handle quite a bit more power. The engine needs to be upgraded with better injectors and fuel pump..etc. to handle over 8 psi though. This is just what I heard on another board from Corksport. I am planning on calling them soon to see when things will be made available.

It's true that the US FS-DE engines should be able to handle more boost than the FS-ZE due to the lower compression ratio. No one really knows exactly how much boost, or what the weak link in the engine is yet, as there hasn't been much testing done on this engine with a turbo yet. The fact that Mazda is releasing the MazdaSpeed 3 with a factory warrantied turbo, even if it is with low boost, says a lot about their faith in the strength of the engine. They know that many, if not most, of these cars will be driven hard. They don't make money by replacing motors under warranty, so that would suggest there is plenty of reliability designed into this turbo system.
