Full equal length header + hi-flow cat + cat-back exhaust
Just wanted to give you guys the heads up on some news on parts available for the Protege 5/MP3.
I spoke with iON Performance and they have developed a full header back exhaust system. (4-2-1 header + hi-flow cat + catback exhaust) Everything is made of T304SS, mandrel bent and TIG welded. Pre-liminary results have shown 21hp gain @ the wheels on an automatic Protege 5. They have systems available for the MP3 & Protege 5 and basically any 2.0L I4 model for Mazda. The exhaust has a single 4" highly polished SS tip that's beveled and resonated.
Also in the works is a turbo-kit for the 2.0L Protege 5/MP3/ES complete with FMIC, extra injectors etc.

So this would not be CARB compliant, emissions compliant down here because it removes the pre-cat right.
What price are they selling it for?
You can buy a Mazdaspeed header and cat back, or a probe header, a hi-flow cat and get a cat back already. The problem we're running into is finding a shorty header, one which does not eliminate the pre-cat, but would that even be worth doing. They have them for the focus, pacesetter and jba.
Do you have their phone number? I'd like to call them and see if they can e-mail me the pics.
Thanks, Rishie

Just gave them an email. This is something I have been looking for. I really want to find out the price because coming this spring I would like to do something like that and a cai. Do you know the site for them. Thanks

Hi Dustin, thanks for your interest. Yes we've just
finished testing our several header designs for the
Protege, and are in the process of finalizing
manufacturing details.
Our system operates as 1 unit (ie:
header/cat/cat-back) and have shown to provide gains
throughout the powerband, and peaking at 21hp at the
wheels on a 2wd dyno.
The system is constructed of full T304SS and carries a
lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.
Price has yet to be finalized, but it will be
somewhere around $1400US + shipping. (Most likely
less).
Our site is currently under development, it should be
up and running in early January.

It looks promising but looks like it is a little $$.

$1400 is a lot for an exhaust, even if it does have a header.....i would not pay more than $1000. you can get a custom mandrel bent exhaust with high performance muffer for about $350-400 + $300-450 for header=about $800.

Looks a little pricey, but you have to consider the fact that it's a full tuned unit system.
Header + Hi-flow cat + cat-back w/ lifetime warranty. Plus everything is T304SS mandrel bent & is ceramic coated. I don't know of any other company that can boast that kind of commitment.
Their stuff for BMW's & Subaru is even more expensive, but they have the bragging rights to building the fastest N/A BMW M5 (E28) as well as the fastest Turbo'd Impreza 2.5RS on stock tires in Canada. You get what you pay for, and the quality of their stuff is top notch.

Also what is the HP at lower RPM because you have an automatic like mine and did you gain or lose at lower RPM.
