Johnnie's car is just super fast with almost nothing in mods. HE just added some 17" low profile tires but I'm wanting to see how fast he'd be with some good launching tires and smaller diameter. His mods = MP3 ecu, obx header, ebay CAI, front motor mount insert....he's currently bouncing off the 9.9s 1/8th mile time. My supercharged car only ran a 10.2s (horrible launching though) He's really getting the holeshot on everyone he races....it's funny to watch him jump a car length on a Mustang GT and hold him off across the line.

We're alos getting reasdy to put the first S-AFCII on his car so we'll do some before and after dynos.

p.s. his car doesn't even have a tach....hahaha

I got a NA 2003 protege dx. With ebay cai, obx header, mp3 ecu, tein springs, forza axle back. When I say mid 9's I mean in the 1/8th mile. My fastest time so far is a 10 flat in the 1/8th and a 2.049 60 ft time on stock tires and open diff. And oh yeah I got a front motor mount insert from Matty. 9.9's seem within reach we just got to get there on the rite day and stop missing gears! Atmospheric conditions have been horrible lately so on a nice crisp day high 9's should be in reach. And the safc II should really help to sway things on a day when the conditions are not good because we can overide the stock ecu's rich condition due to atmospheric conditions and default settings. And on a good day it will be even better to have. This project is a good answer to many of the proteges problems. We hope it works out great.

OOps Matty already said all that, Maybe I should check the last page before making a post huh. he he he

progress update, the ecu-modifier is done and will be in my hands shortly. When Johnnie gets his S-AFCII in we'll get it 99% installed and have it dyno'd. I'll finish the connections, use the first few pulls to make adjustments to the S-AFCII, and then we'll make the other pulls and note the difference which will be the hp gain/loss.

should make for interesting posts since no'one else has gotten it to work before.

Hp gain/loss? Better not be no D@#$ losses to da power! He he he he just playin. I have faith dont worry. Man check this out.... I know our cars run extremely rich, I think I have found an indication of this with the engine feedback in correspondance to pedal position. When I am going at about 2000rpms and then I stomp the gas in say 1st gear for example. The car speeds up nicely but it seems as if it does not run as strong in the mid range. But, when I am going at the same rpm and same gear and I push the gas down about 1/2 to 3/4 to WOT the car seems to pull harder than if I just go to WOT all at once. I think the car does that because they run so rich and it is hard for the engine to burn off that sudden flooding of fuel at WOT, so what I am trying to say is that it takes time for the car to burn off all that fuel unless you press the gas at a prggrosseive rate. Which may I add is hard to do if you are trying to race and still be fast doing it! Correct me if I am wrong but that is just a theorie. Tell me if you guys have noticed the same thing or something similiar. If this is the case then the SAFC II will help tremendously with this.

I feel confident that I'll be able to show some good gains with this. People in the FC crowd (second gen rx7's) have seen 10-25whp with this mod alone. Their cars are also notoriously rich up top....so this allows them to fine tune it for performance.

I read the $10 answer to the question, but was like, huh? So, in simple terms - will it have a map for my car WITH cams?

Thanks!

this is not something with "maps". I think the best way to describe it would be a "plus or minus" system. What you will do is have the car dyno'd prior to installation and using the wideband print out you will go into the S-AFC's tuning chart and add or remove fuel (every 200rpms) in order to achieve ideal AFR's.

A very good investment would be a decent wideband gauge so you could tune for partial throttle as well as WOT.

the S-AFCII and I are basically the same unit. I'm assuming it'll work just fine however I'm trying to sell this as a package so I can actually make a little profit off it for a change!

If you just want the ecu bypass I'm sure I can sell you one directly though. I'll have to figure out shipping though.

So is this something that you're also considering as an option for the WOMP kit??

nope, a basic WOMP kit will use an FMU to increase fuel pressure as needed ONLY with boost. You will already have a way to adjust your fuel delivery with that...just not as fine tuned.

it's kinda complex but the short answer is NO, it wont work with any FI kit.
