Hesitates
I have a 1999 protege LX 1.6 automatic
It hesitates at speeds of 30 - 40 mph.
car will get to 30 or 40 mph and then the tachometer will
raise to 4 rpm before shifting to the next gear.
it will do that from 30 to 35mph. Tachometer will be at
about 2 1/2 - 3 before hitting 30 -35mph then it will hesitate and tachometer will raise to 4. then it shifts into the next gear.
Feels very bad. Mazda dealer are very busy here in florida
try many times to get it check out. Maybe I can take it to
another place, like a mechanic.
any suggestion?

Is the Check engine light on? I don't know, but this sounds like you have a transmission problem. It sounds like it is slipping. I had a 86 Honda Accord that done the same thing from 2nd the 3rd and the auto tranny had to be replaced. Hope this is not your problem.

No the engine light is not on. when the light turns green, I push on the gas and then as soon as i get to 30 - 35 mph, the car
tachometer will go from 2 1/2 -4 rpm( like a 2 second delay) before shifting to the next gear. Now I have a automatic, don't know much about cars and hoping that not what wrong with it.
Friends of mine, said i might have to have my trans. rebuild.

there is 78068 miles on it now, before i brought it. the dealer said they change the trans. fluid and that was at 69000 miles. going to check the fluid level right now! Could it be that it just need to be change. the fluid or because it too much fluid?
thanks!
thanks!

well I really don't know a whole lot about cars, but I do know that the fluid level should NEVER be over full. That can cause more damage then it being too low. I have a book from Mazda that is the 99 Protege service highlights book and from what I understand, if your transmission was having a problem, your OD OFF light along with your check engine light would be on. The computer in our cars are very sensitive to problems that occur. Before you jump right to the transmission as your problem you may want to start with a basic tune up. If that does not solve your problem, you then may want to get all of the sensors scanned at the Mazda dealership and make sure they all are within factory specs. Only then would I start worring about getting the trans looked at. There are many sensors on our cars that do control the way the Transmission shifts and operates and that could be it. Which you may have one that is failing but not to the point that it is setting a code in your computer. I had that happen with my Mass Air Flow sensor.

Well, mazda dealer just call said," I need a new transmission"
price $2250.00. Don't understand how a three year old car with 78k miles could need a new trans. Going to get a second opinion because this is bull *&$#. Going to write mazda, because i shouldn't have to pay for a new tran. here's the answer!!!!
