How do you read codes?

So I have an 01 Protege ES 2.0, 5spd, how do I read codes off the ECU? Is there a computer under the front seats or what?

Thanks, i'm new here.

There is a dongle below the dash, to the left of the steering wheel. Just stick your head under there, and you can't miss it. You need an OBD-II reader.
