i'll normally shift between 3500 and 4000.

if i'm bagging the car, 5500 to 6000. the power drops off sharply after 5500 anyway.

I've raced it....done peel outs at redline, and i think once or twice i hit the rev limiter (7k), i've hit max speed, 5th gear which was around 5500RPM, can't rem too well, maybe closer to 6k)
In my friends probe, he went past 8k...by accident...cause he down shifted....I thought the engine was gonna blow (the tach only goes up to 8k) I think he musta hit 10k when he did it.
most of the time when i drive fast and race...I shift at, or just B4 redline...max power is under redline

engine is the 1.8L FP-DE...mentioned in sig

I like to keep my revs around 3000 to 4000 and normally shift around 5000 to 6000 if I want speed. Our cars have no low-end power, so if you want to move, rev it high! It won't hurt the engine.

2-3K RPM normal
3-4K RPM passing/"spirited" driving
4-5K RPM ******** that won't let me merge properly
4.5K-redline racing (rarely)

Eh, it depends.

Driving in traffic 2000-2500
Normal driving I'll shift anywhere from 2500-4000
Spirited driving, included full throttle on-ramp blasts 5000-5500

I have yet to come close to the redline.

I left a little rubber in my car for the first time, just the other day. It was a funny feeling the steering wheel wriggle around in my hands. My last car was RWD...to say the least.

I generally shift at around 5k on the streets on my 2.0. No wonder I don't get my 30mpg.

Normally, just below 4K. When I'm pissed off, enraged w/ anger, or in a hurry....REDLINE.

Hehe, I'm kind of hard on the engine. I have hit the "engine shaking" zone many times.

Pssst, that's 7000rpm.

I have a Manu-Matic and 2 times when I shifted from 1st to 2nd I hit it too late and I went beyond red. Man, that sounded evil, like death waiting to happen. I'm more carefull now. I only use manual when I'm making a fast u-turn or mainly on on ramps. The auto shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 2000 which is way to low for me in those situations.

redlining engine... perfectly ok as long as you keep up maintence!
I Thought the FS-DE was rated to go up to 7800 RPM without ripping itself apart, so why would 7000 be bad? I've hit the rev limiter lots. It sounds like ***, but sometimes you just have to clear out that damn carbon...
