I bet your day was better than mine...
Well, looks like I need a new engine... Or so the guy at the dealership says.
The story:
Driving home from the bank on Friday, a sudden tapping sound started coming from my engine. I pull over immediately, and open my hood, thinking that my intake came loose and was knocking. Nope. Instead, its coming from under the valve cover. Not good. I drive to the dealership from there. The service dude comes out, looks under, and pulls the dipstick, immideately exposing the cause to my problem... No oil. Now I don't check my oil level that often, but I do once in a while, and get it changed regularly. So I was puzzled unto how my car used 3+ quarts of oil in a short amount of time... I noticed no oil drips under my parking spot, and no blue smoke. Anyway, I accepteed it, put 2 quarts of oil into it, and a bottle of STP oil additive to eliminate some of the possible problems... Nope.
I take it to the dealership today, drop it off and say, don't do anything to it, but find out what's wrong. I got the dreaded phone message later this evening saying that there is severe "pitting and scoring" on the cylander head and that he recommends that I replace the engine.
So I guess the blessing in disguise is that I can either swap a new 1.8L FS-DE engine in, or I wonder if I should swap in the 170HP FS-ZE J-Spec motor in. What shall I do and how hard is the J-SPEC swap gonna be? Condolences and Sympathy is welcome as well...

your day was worse tha mine?? I don't think so...
My wife tells me today she thinks I need to get back into Karate....because....get this...she thinks I should become a UFC fighter....That's the last thing I need is to be pounded on by guys whose sole job for the past few years is breaking people in half.
you need a new engine....i need more insurance.

Dat FlyinHawaiian-
Bummer, home-boi!
Another option may be a performance-built (not JDM) long block engine...
Ya' know - cams/pistons/etc... It should be cheaper/more power than the JDM... Do some more searching for options...

Yeah, the other option I have is a little more complicated, but is more reliable and keeps the FP-DE (thanks for the correction), in the car. The idea is that I get the new engine, and swap the blocks out, but send the heads out as well as buy an MP3 manifold and send it out as well to get Port and Polished. Also, if I drop the J-SPEC cams in and maybe get an MP3 ECU, with my current mods, I could run a very possibly 150-160 whp for around $3,000; which is how much its gonna cost me to either get the J-Spec engine, or to go through a dealership and do this. I'm gonna give Roddimus credit for this one... I'm definately not smart enough to figure this one out...!

i forgt about you having the 1.8L engine...I'd love to see the 1.8L block with a EH P&P head and j-spec cams. That should be a lot of fun...kicking the living crap out of NA hondas all day long.

....you could also buy the front clip of a MSP, and swap everything out...
You have to replace the engine anyways, and this could be a cost effective way to "go turbo" at the same time.
That said, I am not going to debate anyone that the Wagner kit or other aftermarket turbo kits are better than the stock MSP unit. But the MSP front clip idea might give you the performance you need, at a price you can handle.

It's cool bro, we all love our cars and will defend them to the death, no matter what. I don't hold it against you. Hopefully I can help you feel that all 1.8 owners aren't evil.
