idle at 200 rpm

Question here...i know our car is supposed to idle at around 700 rpm. Of course when the engine is cold mine starts off pretty high,,, like 1500+.. but when the engine warms up, or i drive around and stop at a light, put it in park, noticed my rpms are at 200. anyone else notice this? Or is my car on cocaine again.....

I never really thought this is a bad thing... its not stalling, but just though i would ask.

thanks people.

200 is pretty low man... Does it sound sluggish when it's that low? maybe the tach's just off. I'd have it looked at though.

That sounds very low to me also....usually it should stay around 700 after it warms up. I would take the car back to the dealership and ask the to check it out...but make sure that you warm up your car first so that you can reproduce the rpm speed.

Are you sure you're reading your gauge correctly? The first little "tick" on the tach represents 0 (obviously), and the second tick represents 500. Each one after that represents 100 until you reach 1000. Unless the needle is between the first two ticks, you're above 500 and you're okay.

If it is below 500, you should probably get it checked out. To be honest, I doubt the engine could even run at 200RPM.

Don't worry, I only knew this cause I thought the same thing you did when I first got my car. I've seen others on this board say the same thing, so I guess it's pretty common.
