Idling Problems and Check Engine Light

Idling Problems and Check Engine Light
Hi,
I am experiencing problems with an erractic idle which has triggered a CEL on my 2003 Protege 5. The idle cycles up and down to the point where it almost stalls. In addition, it can be pretty hard to start the car some times. Once it is running however, there doesn't seem to be any issues. I have tried the battery disconnect trick to reset the idle speed, but that didn't seem to help. The car has an Injen CAI and a Greddy cat-back exhaust system installed. Could these parts be the culprit? Also, I have seen in the forums here that my EGR valve (not sure if this is exactly the part name) may be faulty. Could the MAF or an O2 sensor need to be replaced?
I have the car booked to go to the dealer this Thursday, but I was just hoping someone might be able to provide some info as to what may be causing this problem. Also, would any of these problems be covered under our warranty? I guess I will have to wait to see what codes are brought back by the diagnostic to be entirely sure.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott.

Re: Idling Problems and CEL
Hi all,
Just an update. I had the car serviced yesterday. It turns out the EGR valve was sticking and needed to be replaced. All service was performed under warranty as EGR issues have become a common problem in many Proteges with 45k - 55k on them. If anyone else is experiencing similar symptoms, having the EGR replaced or serviced may be the place to start.
Take it easy,
Scott.
