If You Have Had Tranny Problems Read This

Hi,

I am from the mazdamp3.com website. This past weekend my transmission messed up. It is stuck in 4th gear and even in neutral it is in gear. There is another guy on there, Mazmp2001, that had the EXACT same problem, he is from NY. I also understand webmaster on here had the EXACT same thing, don't think they are the same person hehe.

Anyway, I am glad it was not just me, I thought it was the clutch I put in. If anyone else has had this sort of problem please email me asap. If the dealer gives me crap about my mods I want to use you all as examples. Thanks guys.

Email is Jimbo513@hotmail.com

Hey NC_MP3,
You are screwed! It's difficult enough to get the dealer to fix warranty issues with no mods. You have a heavy duty clutch and a short shifter installed - they will definitely attribute your transmission problems to this, without a doubt.

Good luck but I think you're SOL.

I have to agree with Surfwagon on this one....

An ACT six puck (kinda extreme for your setup to begin with), lightweigh flywheel, they are gonna attribute any of your problems to those mods, and they will refuse to fix it under warranty. Hate to say it but you are 99% S.O.L.

Good Luck

I am 100% I will get it fixed under warranty. I was the first one to say I was screwed, but after finding out that 2 more people had the EXACT same problem, I am confident I will get it fixed. If they refuse to warranty it I will simply gather all the evidence and take them to court. That is 3 cases of locked up tranny's, and there have to be 20+ people on the mp3 boards complaining about grinding gears when shifting. All these people with these tranny problems will be more than enough to persuade anyone that it is a defect, not the aftermarket parts.

And on a side note, the 6 puck is the way to go. I originally had the street disc and it sucks. Hell, the 6 puck still slips a little. Anyone that is planning on boosting a protege, which I am, should get the puck.

All I have to say is good luck! Don't matter if 500 people have the same problem, if they all race their cars and beat on them, and are modifying their trannies as well, it won't hold up in court. I dunno, if your lucky they will fix it, but still, i wish you luck bro.

Well, I just called the dealership and they ARE going to warranty it! They said they couldn't find a thing wrong with the tranny, but they are going to put a new one in. I called the dealers where the other 2 guys took theirs and they said it was bent shifter forks.

Anyway, they are gonna fix it and everything is cool.

Well they replaced my whole tranny too. They said they were gonna replace my clutch too cause it probably wore my clutch out. But I guess when they saw the 6 puck they didn't hehe.

Look....i fell you on this....really. i had something similar happen on my 99 civic Si and the dealer basically said, screw you!!!

as for going to court?-ask yourself these questions first:
1. how much money do you have?
2. how much does Mazda USA have? Remember: youre gonna be in suit with Mazda NA. they are the final authority on the warranty.
3. how much money do you have?
4. Is there ANY precedent (meaning ANY other cases of similar instance) in any other court?
5. can you find an attorney worth a crap? doubtful.
6. do you have the time for the suit?

all of these questions are serious and need to be addresses, before you bring a suit. in the end, good luck!!!!

I'm seriously suprised they did it under warrenty. Either that or the tech got major extra hours for fixing your mods, in which case he probably didn't care. But i'd say you're lucky...and most definitely would have no chance in a court case.

I think if I were to threaten with a lawsuit then I would get what I want. Mazda has already had bad luck in court with the Miata and their HP claims. They wouldn't want the bad publicity.

Anyway, it is getting fixed so it doesn't matter. However, the servcie manager said there was nothing wrong with the tranny, but they replaced it anyway. This seems kinda odd. I think they found the same problem as the other 2 Proteges and they just don't want to admit there is a problem. He said something like, this is the first tranny problem they have seen, I was quick to point out the other 2 Protege's with the same problem. I think they are trying to cover it up.

When I talked to the dealership in IL (webmasters car) he said he wasn't going to warranty cause he thought it was owner abuse. He called Mazda and they said warranty it. The one in NY said the same thing, if it was him he wouldn't warranty it but Mazda said to. I think they are covering it up. I mean come on, I have a 6 puck racing clutch and they didn't give me any problem.

Just my thoughts though.

Hehe, you know what he said? He said he saw you had a cone filter and racing pedals, so he thought it was abuse LOL!

This is a puck:

Those copper plates are called pucks, so thats where you get the name. Some call them pads.

This is a regular disc:

Actually, that is a sprung disc, but you get the idea hehe.

You have pucks and disc's and sprung hub and kevlar and carbon fiber and...

The list goes on hehe.

Yes, a puck will grab alot harder than a disc, but it will jerk you around normal driving. If you don't want to sacrifice daily driving get a disc, but if you are like me and don't mind, get a puck!

Add my name to the list of Fukced Trannies! Mine went out tonight. I was shifting from first to second and all of a sudden I get grindage. Well it idled for a little bit and then stalled. I have no idea what happened but now my car cranks but doesn't start! I am soo pissed because I did everything right while shifting and it grinded and now I don't have a ride to work tommorow Man I am so pissed!
Now I do have "you know what" in my car but I wasn't using it when this happened and I haven't used it in 2 months. Should I take it out to be safe? Even though there will still be a hole in the intake for evidence. What should I do?
