Question Injen CAI and AEM Bypass Valve

I just bought this setup and was wondering if anyone else was running this also? I was hoping maybe to see a pic or two of how it's supposed to look. I'd like a mental picture before I start taking **** apart and get it screwed up. I'm kinda wary of having the intake too close to the ground and sucking up a crapload of water, esp. since it's been like the rainforest here in NC lately. Thanks in advance.

ok heres the bottom line: the bypass valve only keeps it from sucking in raw water. its not like it filters out little bits of water. its worthless unless you drive in over a foot of water on a regular basis or plan on doing so.

It also hurts HP i hear. Im gonna order an injen CAI soon and just get the splash guard, since theres never flooding where I live. I think the splash guard is more important :|

I realize that it's not going to "filter out the little bits of water" that get in the intake that bothers me. Hell, that's gonna happen whether I use the intake or leave it stock. It's the "sucking in a shitload of water and hydrolocking my engine" that bothers me. I see the heat shield as more of a "splash guard" in this situation. Hell, I may just put the intake in and see how low it sits and not even bother with the valve.

The Injen is rather well protected where it sits in the fender well. The bypass valve in my opinion is not practical. I bought the splash guard but have yet to install it after 4 months. All the splash guard would do is keep the filter a touch cleaner. We get serious rain sometimes up here in Ohio, and believe me, the Injen does not affect much of anything in the weather.

hey Albino and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

you can go to protege5online.com and go to the TECH section, Mitch the owner of the site has some install instructions there for the injen that are a LOT better than the ones that come with it.....example the ones that come with it tell you to remove your front bumber!! omg no don't do that there is a lot easier way....follow/use Mitch's instructions.

as for the bypass valve....can you return it? if so.....return it and get your $40 or so back...its worthless.....if you install your intake with it...then measure up fron the ground to 1/2 way up your intake filter or so and you would see that you would have to have your car sitting in water a foot deep or so get water anywhere near your intake....not to mention you would have to have your engine reved up to create enough vaccum to suck the water up.

think about it.....if it was a REAL issue, don't you think that Injen would be making some thing like this to make money too?

i have the bypass valve already installed. i didn't think about all the stuff i just read. Is there any way i can take the valve off and seal up where the pipe was cut in half and will i get any hp that someone i believe said is lost from putting the valve on?

thanks in advance

Thanks for the hearty welcome Sir Nuke. Actually, P5online is where I bought it from. As soon as I saw the "destructions" that Injen gave me, I ran to Mitch's site and looked at his install. Thanks for the input. All the pics I found were from the top and didn't really show the location of the filter. That's what I was really worried about. Now I gotta get ahold of Mitch and see if I can return this valve. Thanks again!!

what you would need to do is get a piece of the rubber/silicone tubing like that came with the intake that was a bit longer to make up for the piece you cut out. that would do the trick just fine.

Yeah, that's odd. Took my old man and I about and hour and a half to put it in. We custom fab'ed a few brackets for the whole setup. Whenever I have helped my father do anything, I always came away with the feeling that it was done right by doing all the little extra things to make it right/look good. The brackets we made were out of aluminum and helped tie the overflow down a little better using both the bolt tabs on it. This one went back down to where it was located stock and REALLY eliminated the shake the tank had. We also made up a bracket to help support the intake itself that tied into the empty bolt holes on the MAF. I'll get some pics up later this week.

injen CAI

If anyone has this mod and lives where there is snow (I live in Southern New England and last winter sucked!), let me know how it held up.

This was originally my first choice for my new MP5 but I also ran a HotShot air intake on my previous ZX2 and the temp of the intake air never affected performance. The car really kicked in above 3,500 rpm. Thanks

fks
