Injen here to help!
I was just curious about the complaints about the injen CAI on this site so I wrote a simple email to them:
Waiting on the dynos for the Protege 5 2.0l. I think you are loosing sales to AEM check out protegeclub.com
And There response was
Thanks for the email.
Well, there are 2 problems with the Protege. I noticed that all of the cars
using the Nippon Denso Air Mass are having problems when they are dirty.
Toyota, Lexus, and Mazda are using them. They seem to be really sensitive.
Our problem is when the sensor is dirty and with the strong flow of the
filter, you get a check engine light. We do have a cure with a less flowing
filter that the computer seems to love.
AEM makes a great product. They have been around longer we know. We just
want to stay focused on our business. We have worked on developing a better
relationship with AEM and we both realize that there is plenty of business
for both companies to exist. So you think they are beating our sales but who
knows? That is not our focus.
You took extra time out of your day to send me this email. What was your
real reason? Is it to encourage me to look at your problem? Well, the web is
good and bad. I wish that those with problems would call us so that we can
help them. Did you know we have a lifetime warranty? If less people
complained on the web and left replies like " Hey, I had a problem but Injen
was great and fixed it." we would all be a lot more happier.
I hope my words help you. We are all good people at Injen and the most
important thing to me is that our customers are happy with what they bought
with their money. As for the dynos, I had a problem with the dyno computer
and we will have it up again on Monday. We will just need to bring in the
Protege for the results. Sorry for the delay but we are working as fast as
we can. Remember, we have over 100 applications. Times that by a 400 piece
run and that is 40,000 pipes being bent.
I agree if you have a problem get help from the source and stop complaining it only took 5 minutes for me to go to their site, write this email, and get results. If you have a problem contact ryan@injen.com

Hi guys. Sorry if any of you are having problems with the 1.6L. We have faced similar problems with vehicles utilizing the Nippon Denso Air Sensor like the one in your cars. We have a good fix now. I am not saying nobody tried to get help but we do have a lifetime warranty. I know Mike Lucero tried to get help but it took time to see what the true problem was.
Please understand that not all of the 1.6L had a problem. Some are just fine, including the test vehicles. We noticed that if the sensor becomes dirty, you have to clean it or the check engine light turns on and the car leans out. On top of this, over filter was flowing too much. Too much is a bad thing this time. So what did we do? So far we have used a new, less flowing filter that was developed for us, tested on Lexus diagnostics and flow benched so this problem would go away.
Ok sorry for the long thread. I just want to help you guys and let you know we are hear to help you. We want you to know we don't want you to feel you wasted your money. Email me at ryan@injen.com (in subject, write protege forum.). If you have a warranty issue, let's take care of it. I will need a few things:
1. A copy of your receipt. 2. Your full name, address, and phone.
Nonetheless, let me make sure you are satisfied. This is all I am asking.
Thanks for your time,

I didnt see anything close to saying the AEM is a better quality & better flowing filter. He did say (not in relation to AEM on anything) that the high flow the filter gets causes a llittle more power with a dirty filter. Injen actually out performed AEM (and everyone else including K&N) when Jackson Racing tested all cone filters.
