INstalling cai questions

What do I do with the coolent resoviour? I tried all sorts of stuff and It always seems to be in the way. NOw that back of it is blocking the hole for the intake.

Also what should I do with this tube?

It also blocks the cai hole. Can I just push it out fo the way without fear of braking anything?

One more thing. Which makes more power a cai or sri. Rather which is smoother. I heard the cai's have alot of drivability problems. As an sri I have some problems. Is it gonna get worse. (1.6l btw)

The injen comes with a new braket. MIne doesnt, I know its possible to turn the coolent just right so it fits though. Just havent found that.

Pretty helpful on the random tube though, his seems to have been pushed back.

There's another hole down there that will allow you to move your bracket to a slightly different location for your reservoir...I'll see if I can get you a pic of mine so you can see what I mean

Nice but that doesnt really help. Maybe where the coolent is does, interesting. how much time did you spend to shine everything up lookin good.

Anyone throwin a cel or having drivability issues? Its already gotten to me. The SRI ran great for only one night. All day Ive been making gaskets and reinstalling things. This thing was hesatating like all hell. So I just gave up and put back the stock. I feel so much slower now, its like the cars always hesatating. In a few days Im gonna try again with the cai. HOpe it works out.

Interesting note.....Pep Boys carries parts now to make your own CAI...you can get straight tubes, 45's,60's,90's, and they also carry the mount that allows you to bolt on your MAF on 1.6L's

The parts are made by Spectre

I got one of the mounts as it is a 3" tube, this will FINALLY allow me to eliminate the puny 1.5" "choke" that I cut out of the stock airbox to mount my MAF in my intake

I found it looks better and is easier if you do this.

There is a small bolt that the old box bolts to on the side of the radiator. If you bend that down so that the bolt is at a 90 deg. angle then you can bolt the resovuare right there and it looks like it belongs there. Heres a pic.

It only took me like 10mins to shine everything after i pressure wash the engine bay, I use Eagle One "never dull" polish. Apply and wipe off, makes everything nice and shiney.

I've had both the generic ebay cai and injen cai on the car, as well as the ebay SRI and several modified intakes. Hesistates like crazy and lost of power and cels. If you put an adjustable fuel pressure regultor and up the psi a little it will solve the heisistation, dont know about the CELS. Did you reset the ECU, and let the car idle for a few minute to relearn the fuel curves.

Since getting tried of dealing with cels, i just got a K&N drop in filter with the stock intake, and there is more power in that then with any of the intake set ups. The 1.6 is known for cels and heisistation with intakes.

I was able to run for one night with no hessitation and no cels, its where I got that bitchin dyno from. If only it could keep running right. Arent you worried about hosing down the engine bay. Im gonna try with only a damp cloth, and some polish.

Yo mack any hessitation, I might have to go to pepboys if its runnin good. Tomorow Im gonna go back and try a few more things. Worst case senerio Ill just use the stocker airbox and put a huge scoop somewhere.

I have a theory
The air is flowing along the outside of the intake pipe. The maf is reading from the middle where there is low airflow. This creates a lean condition p0171! If we could smooth the airflow it would mean the maf could take a proper reading of the air flow. This goes hand in hand with why my intake only worked one night at 1am, its cold then and cold air is harder to take in so it would use more of the pipe.

Possible a filter with an velocity stack (hole in top) would help. Im gonna try a peice of cloth. Possibly something like the 2.0 guys have the screen to smooth airflow. Its not really used by them but it might help us. A small obstruction to flow is better then hessitation right.

Yes, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a CAI...might as well stay stock then.

That piece I bought BTW, I don't know why, but the car wouldnt run right at ALL....went back to my original setup for now, I might play with it some more, because I think the MAF is sitting too high in the new mount, so it isnt getting proper readings(my best guess)

I probably wont have a chance to mess with it for a couple weeks though
