JSPEC FSZE Intake Cam (3rd Gen)
#49
Well, i was a base mechanic until two weeks ago. all that i had done before was plugs, and oil, the basics. i have now almost finished my first ring job. trust me, cams are easy, i'd rank putting in new cams up there just a little higher than installing an intake and changing oil. it's really not that tough. and about you guys who say no one's dyno'd the cam for proof, well the probers did, and it gains like 8hp to the wheels, but they say the feeling is much stronger. i used to be an Mx6er so i've been around the mazda block a while :0)

I wouldn't expect the idle to change much at all. I want to install the cams as well, but am waiting to hear the results. Would these cams be turbo friendly or would my current cams be better? I read somewhere on this board that the current profile would be more friendly when under boost....

it *might* have more over lap than stock cams, but it has more duration and higher lift which is better for T/C. besides, are any of you running turbos or plan on doing that in the near future? $150 for 10 flywheel hp isn't that bad of a deal, for a N/A car that's almost godsend. (i say this knowing that for 150 i could just 20 hp, but that's neither here nor there :0)

I do plan on installing a turbo when kits become available or when there are more custom systems out there. I need/want more information before I put stress on the engine. Thanks for the information on the cam.

More duration is what gives you more overlap, how is that better for a turbo application? Don't get me wrong, the FS-ZE intake cam is the best mod available for the '99-'00 1.8L FP and '01+ 2.0L FS engines for the money right now, but if and when a turbo application becomes available for those engines, you won't want the more aggressive FS-ZE intake cam installed at that point. If you can install the cam yourself, get the cam now, and remove it if you turbocharge the engine. For the money, it's worth it to have the cam until a turbo is truly available.

That is a very good point.....I will probably get the cams when mazda motorsports get more of the exhaust cams. should I expect about 20 HP from the intake and the exhaust cam? Or is that way to optimistic?
