K&N Oil Filters any good??

I just got my 15,000 mile service on my P5, want to do my own oil change from now on. They used some oil that I've never heard before, anyways... anyone tried K&N oil filters yet? Is it a good investment? What's the price from the stores? Thanks

They are better then stock. There is no real hp gain , mabee one . Little better gas miliage. I paid like 35 bucks shipped from protege5online.com . I think it was money well spent.

I see k&n and think air filter. I bought there oil filter once but then decided it was a waste to spend 10 bucs on an oil filter. I just bought the mazda ones after that. Protege5online had those too but not sure if he still does.

Dealer charged me $6.50 for oil filter!!

I got my 15,000 mile service and I read on the paper that they charged me $6.50 for the filter. I figured that since the K&N oil filter isn't that much more... I'll try it if anyone has tried it. A couple of bucks for better protection... a wise investment if it's worth it... Any others tried the K&N OIL FILTER??

Really it all depends on what you want in your car. Most people on this board will use the stock oem filters. The stock is pretty good and reliable. I really do not know the quality of the K&N oil filter...but I rather not buy it because of the name.

But maybe someone has used the K&N and can educate us on the difference between that and the stock oem.

This forum is a great place to learn about oil and oil filtration.

The K&N filter is made by Champion labs, who also make the Mobil 1, Bosch, and STP filters, along with many other well known brands. The K&N DOESN'T filter quite as well as the Mobil 1 filter, but it's less restrictive.

This thread gives a good explanation of the K&N filter.
