Knocking bad

Hi I am new to the forums I have a 2003 mazda protege 5 and the engine just started knocking. This happened after I went into a store for 5 minutes. I came out my car started and died. I tried again to start it and then it died. Third time I tried I started and pressed the gas a bit. Car revved to about 3000 rpm and I heard a slight knock. So I pressed the gas again. Again there was a knock. Turned off the car thought for a couple minutes. Then tried again started easily but it was knocking constantly now. The sound sounds like my pistons are tapping on my valves. Anyone with info I am about to have my dad's friend take a look at my car. I hope its not too serious I still gotta pay for my college and get my damn laptop screen fixed. Thanks everyone. BTW I am from Guam climate is humid and temperature is usually above 80 degrees F.

wow.
Don't drive it until you can have someone borescope the cylinders. You may have liberated a VTCS screw [shudder].

That sure sounds like the dreaded VICS (not VTCS) screw to me. Does it sound like something is loose and rattling inside your engine? If yes, DO NOT drive the car.
How many miles do you have on it?
It will be covered under warranty. Get it to the dealer ASAP and have them pull the intake mani--it'll be piston#4 and your spark plug will probably have damage to the tip also from the screw hitting it.

I was looking at the thread about the recall and I wasn't sure if it was official for the U.S. can anyone let me know?

Yes, the recall is officially for US models. It took Mazda a long time to own up to it but it finally happened earlier this year.
Your warranty was done at 50 but since it's a recall now it should be fixed for you.
This happened to me last fall, before the recall, but I was at 45k.

Haha yea i'll try to keep up with posting on two forums. So far my lighting system shorted out causing my headlamp bulb holder to melt and i literally had to tear apart the bulb from the holder. My car died out before for no aparent reason while i was u turning( i have an automatic sports trans). Hmm what else? Well I took out my IAT sensor my car seems faster now. Im thinking about pulling out the vtcs if anyone can direct me to a thread that shows me how I will be very pleased. Oh yea I had this noise that sounded like it was coming from my suspension but it only lasted about a week. Sounded like a knocking almost like a flat tire. Wrecked my p5 one time and they did a crap *** job repainting it. Paint is peeling around alot of corners (mostly around the wheel well). Thats about it.

Sound like it may be a busted rod beiring (Hopefully not)

hard cornering causing oil starvation

Good luck, hopefully you will get it covered under warenty.

Sweet, they are going to do that fix, I hope it solves the issue.

The screw has been known to get blown out.

Does it sound like this... (It could sound like this but not as loud)

http://www.msprotege.com/members/jok...k/100_0999.MOV

If so its a busted motor, most likey a rod bering.

Hopefully not, and if so hopefully they warenty it.
