Magnetic Oil Drain Plug?

My dad has a magnetic oil drain plug on his 2000 Vette, and I was wondering if there is one available for the FS-DE on my P5?

The magnetic plug just helps trap alot of the finer metallic pieces that are found floating in your engine, and may not be drained with the oil. Every time he pulls his out, there's always quite a bit of metal dust on it, and after seeing that, I can't imagine that stuff floating around in my engine for too long. If anyone has a part number, or knows if an aftermarket company makes one that will fit, that'd be great.

You could always make one for yourself......buy a NEW standard plug......drill a hole part way through the center......get a small cylindrical magnet near the same size of the hole you drilled in the plug and epoxy it into the hole.....

PRESTO CHANGE-O.........you got a magnetic drain plug.

Easier solution-get couple of magnets and strap them around oil filter. Oil filter just gets discarded with all metal shavings. I saw flexible magnet strap at high performance shop, it was pretty cheap. This thread reminded me that it makes sense to go there and get one for myself.

I know for sure that "Spoon Sport" make them for Hondas, but not sure if they make for out P5. They sell them in a package- Oil plug, and tranny plug. I want one too!! let me call them and see!

These magnetic strips do almost nothing. Don't waste your money.

BTW many auto parts stores sell magnetic drain plugs for just about anything equipped with an internal combustion engine Drain plugs are a pretty standard item- most modern engines take one of 5-6 standard sizes.

well bruce...seeing as how the plug is STEEL....and the magnet is ATTRACTED to steel.....I really don't think it would go anywhere....you need to ensure it epoxied in well...that is how most of the factory or even aftermarket ones are made....and if by some miricle it did come out of the plug...it would certainly STICK to the pan!
