Miata Flywheel F/U/W Proteges?

Hay Protégés,

Anybody out there has access to FSMs or actual knowledge on the P/Ns or measurements of Miata flywheels for use with manual transmission Protégés. I have the F series engine manual and the parts list for 99-01 Protégé and neither lists anything about the flywheel other than you need a special SST tool when changing it out. What I'm trying to do is hopefully confirm that you can use a light weight Miata flywheel in our 1.6 and 1.8 Protégés, which are more readily available. I have a 1.6L and no ones has a light weight flywheel for my application. Indigo Speed is supposed to be making one, but who knows when that will be available. I've tried searching the local salvage yards for a 1.6L Protégé flywheel to match it up with a Miata with no luck. And my two local Mazda dealers have parts guys that I can not understand (African) and are jerks on top of that.
Thanks for the assistance.

fidanza 1.6 miata flywheel

the 1.6 and 1.8 miata `wheels are the same size...

center opening - 33mm
6 bolt holes - (each) 11mm
friction surface - 215mm
tooth gear - 288mm

hope this is what you're wanting???

sorry, but i'm thinkin this just won't work; besides the flywheel mounting correctly, will the clutch kit/pressure plate for your car match up tothe miata 'wheel??? if not, will the miata clutch kit work with your tranny?? the miata/1st gen Pro LX use a 15/16" 22 spline input shaft...

Thanks

Hmm, guess I need the specs from the Protégé 1.6 and 1.8 flywheels now? I'll surf the web today for specs on the clutches for both Protégés and the Miata to compare.
Thanks

As long as I get my message across that's all the matters to me.
Keep the rubber side down!

Re: Thanks

200mm diameter with a 20mm input shaft on F25M-R transaxles used on '95-'00 Proteges. The Miata flywheel will not fit.

Thanks guys

Looks like your right. The Protégé and Miata and MX-3 share clutches but not flywheels. Seems only the early model Protégés and MX-3s share a flywheel.
Thanks

well, its a bummer...WISH it could a worked!

but i'm sure you'll eventually have one for your Pro-plication...if you REALLY want one, get some people together and let fidanza/indigo know - they'll make em with more incentive!!

Calling all 1.6ers?

Who out there that has a 1.6L would like a lightweight flywheel? Would really help those four little hamsters in their cage run a hella lot faster!

If interested re-post this list with your usernames and if we get enough I'll see about getting a flywheel from a salvage yard and sending it too Indigo Speed and Fidanza for a production model to get us one made.
