Modding an auto ...

Ok guys, I think I need some professional imput on this.

My car's an auto P5, and so far I've only focused on loading up on carbon fiber and rims to make it look nicer. So I realize it's time that I actually invest some money in engine mods too.

Now besides the typical CAI/Exhaust combo, what else would be worth while investing in? I've read a lot of good comments about the OBX Headers, but what exhaust would be recommended with it? I'm guessing any would do the job right, but I don't want my car to attract too much attention towards cops so something kinda quiet is what I'm lookin for, and so far I've only HEARD the Magnaflow system so if anyone knows of any other exhausts with a similar sound to the Magnaflow but is cheaper that would help too.

Also, would the WOMP be a possibility to keep in mind and start modifying for it right off the bat, or should I just forget about it cuz my tranny blows? BTW, how much is the WOMP kit altogether anyway? There's way too many pages to go through ont he sticky thread, so I figure someone that knows could give me a number much easier. I wish I could just trade my car for a manual, but I only paid $10K for it so I would never be able to score a deal like that ever again ...

As always, any help would be appreciated!

Yeah i would like to know how much a WOMP would be, and if a stock 1.6 DOHC could handle this as well as the stock tranny

Well to be honest with ya man, that tip is a little too big for my taste ... but I'll still gladly check out the vids to hear what it's like

I think that the magnaflow is the best sounding out there and it is one of the highest flowing. If your doing the hole exhaust remove both cats but leave the resonator.
if your thinking about force induction you'll need to do pistons and rods. The pistons on the p5 like to get holes in them when the motor is force inducted. The rods well there as big as my thumb so you can see the problem with that. BUt the heads, block, and crank on that motor are bullet proof

NOt true at all BluP5, the pistons are not the weak link in our engines. It's the rod strength. Detonation puts holes in pistons and cracks rods. Control detonation and you have nothing to worry about (up to the limits of the tensile strength of the rods)

The WOMP is only for 1.8 and 2.0L cars and starting price for a base kit is $2600 and that would be 160-170whp with about 150-ish lb-ft.. Torque is what kills trannys not HP. This blower produces very little torque above stock with a big increase in hp. This should make it much safer for your tranny than any other from of FI. Look into it but it's not for everyone.

i like tourque more then HP. my brothers 93 or 92 MR2 5 speed doesn't have alot of horses but is full of tourque. that thing is fkn quick. i would like to try to get my pro with as much as a stock tranny of a 1.6 litre to push. would this be possible?

As long as the crap auto tranny can actually support that kind of abuse, I'll keep the WOMP in mind. I mean I would much rather go the supercharger route than turbo anyday, especially with my transmission setup. And $2600 is a much better price than a turbo kit as well.

BTW, would the Magnaflow be a good exhaust to go with the WOMP setup or is there something else you would recommend since you're the almighty creator of the WOMP!!!

to start off grab a few pencils, a whole LOT of paper, and find some threads/websites that explain the concept of turbo'ing and what would be needed etc... (its a good way to kill time and learn tons of info)

contact hi boost for a turbo kit that has pushed 290hp on a stock 1.6l engine, then contact lentech automatics to get the stage 2 transmission for our cars(1.6l,2.0/1.8l) that can hold 280hp.. it would total a lil over 5 grand to get all that though.. the hiboost kit is the best for our 1.6ls though.. it is a monster of a kit, if you restrict the boost to about 6 psi and put a tranny cooler in , you should be safe ..
