Question MP3 shifter in a 2002 ES

I want to get a short throw shifter and figure I would stick with Mazda parts. Is the MP3 shifter better and shorter than the stock one? The dealer says it will take about 1 1/2 hours, they have never done it. Should I go aftermarket and to a better garage? I live in New Jersey, thanks.

you have the shifter. There is an extension on your shifter. The MP3s shifter and yours have the same exact throw. Just a different ****. I took the extension off of mine and another guys and I like the looks of it. Works fine as well.

You would be better off with a B&M or Kartboy shifter. They shorten the thrown by lengthening the shift lever beneath the fulcrum, and also by shortening the top end of the lever as well. I don't have any experience with the Kartboy shifter, but I hear it's nice. I have the Kartboy shifter bushings and I like them a lot.

I have the B&M short-throw shifter and would never go back! The shifts are much more definite and more comfortable. Well worth the $$$!
