Need Advice For Engine Swap
I "MAY" be needing a new engine and transmission in the future for my MP3, and I was wanting to know what "Options" I have over the stock FS-DE?
I really want to try an old GTX motor and tranny if it would fit with minor mods. Or any BP motor, from what I hear they are pretty strong engines.
If anyone can help me out I would greatly appriciate it.

The cause of this wouldn't happen to be the nitrous would it?
But anyways. Yeah the BPT is nice and all, gotta love the turbo and the fact the stock internals can handle insane amounts of boost.. Talking upwards of 25lbs...
How about a KL-ZE swap be the first V6 Protege

I was also curious why the want for the swap out of the blue. If the engine was toast I could understand, but if its good, I agree with mazdamastertech. Have pistons and rods made and do a custom turbo setup.

Right now the ebgine is out of the car and the piston wall is pretty much toast. That brings up another question...does anyone know if the piston walls are sleeves that can be replaced by a machine shop? If so then I will do that and just build up the FS-DE.
But I really like the idea of going with the FE3 if it would not be too hard to get a hold of one and fit it into my 3rd gen.
Where can I find some info on the KL-ZE swap into a 3rd gen Protege? If there has been someone who has done this?

Maybe it should have read "The first V6 Protege MP3"
But thank you so much for pointing out my mistake.

I used to own a Probe GT which has the KL series engine in it stock. (not the J-spec KL-ZE, but the detuned 164hp one.) I could not see one fitting without major modifications to your MP3.
A lot of Probe SE (which has a similar engine layout to your MP3)owners talked about V6 KL-ZE engine swaps and it was cheaper to buy the GT car and do it to that.

Try doing a search. The FE3 has been talked about elsewhere on this forum. Neither the FE3 or KL-ZE swap has been done to a 3rd gen Protege yet. Corksport did the BPT swap and they don't recommend it. It is mistakely thought by many that the FS engine is not a strong one, it is. It comes with an iron block and aluminum head, forged crankshaft, piston oil squirters on the 2.0L version (just like the BP), and the same bore, stroke, deck height and bore spacing as the BP. It is a recent redesign of the older 'big block' 4 cyl F series Mazda engines designed primarily for truck use. It's newer than the BP and hasn't had as much development done yet, but it is a very capable engine. Several turbo systems are in development, and prototypes have had great sucess getting power from this engine.

Hey Eric, Do you know if the FS-DE piston walls can be re-sleeved? My piston scratched up the wall pretty good when it failed and the mechanic told me that it couldn't be bored out enough to allow for a slightly larger piston. But if I can get a machine shop to put in a sleeve of somesort than I might go ahead and rebuild it, slap a turbo on it and hope for the best.
I talked to Dereck today from Corksport about getting an FE3 Engine and he basically told me that it wasn't as good as my FS-DE? Hmm...I am so confused. I have seen people posting about the FE3 being able to withstand 400 and 500 whp all day with proper tuning. I guess "proper tuning" is the key to any engine upgrades.
