In need of some 3gen help.
This is a shot in the dark but I thought I'd ask anyway. Do any of you 3gen owners have your old stock exhaust laying around after putting an aftermarket one on? I am in desperate need of the flange that connects the A) secondary cat pipe (for all 01-02's and all CA model 99-00's) or B) the presilencer (for those 99-00 federal models) to the downpipe that flows off of the Primary cat?
I've looked high and low for this piece that I mistakenly threw away when I tried (in vain) to install the RB catback (doesn't fit on 99-99 federal models). Couldn't find it at any junkyards and the dealer wants $$$$ for the presilencer (they don't sellthe flange separate).
A Crude Diagram:
| | | | <- Header................Presilencer (99-00 fed) or
| | | |..................................Second Cat (CA, 01 up)
._|_.............................................. .....V..................................
|////|| |---------------| |---------XXXXXXXXXXXX---->exhaust
.Cat.......Downpipe............................... ..............................
...................................^------^..............................................
.....................................^............ ......................................
....................Need this flange or section.
Does anyone happen to have this flange/section of pipe? The flange design is unique because it couples up to the down pipe sort of like a shoulder socket would connect to an arm. Otherwise the shop could make one easily.
I'm willing to pay $50 straight up.

I know which joint you are talking about. The flange right behind the oil pan. Just after where the downpipe is bolted up to the bracket that holds it up. The bad news is, that'll be a bitch to find. The good news is, you don't really need it. Just get a flex pipe with whatever diameter tubing you're going to use. I'm not talking about that cheapo flexy crap. Most Japanese car companies use the stainless flex pieces instead of that ball and socket arrangement. If you don't mind not having the original fitting, you can have an exhaust shop use one of those. It does the same thing which is allow the engine to move without breaking the exhaust.

Traveler, that's good advice. I asked the shop I am using if they could do that and they said no. They suck. But screw them b/c I got..
GREAT NEWS!
This section of exhaust WAS a bitch to find. Even the Proteges at the junkyards I visited had these parts scavenged from them already, and there's no way you're going to get me to pay $275 (!!) at the dealership. BUT, Thank God for Anthony W. @ AWR Racing. He was generous enough to give me a spare second cat off of one of the P5's he's building!! This guy saved my ***! THANK YOU TONY!
I'm still planning on having a shop fab a 60mm replacement pipe using the flanges on the second cat piece I got from Tony to match the Racing Beat diameter, but for now I just need my car back!!!. So, I finally got the RB exhaust on and damn its a lot quieter than the old custom job I had on there, but it still has a pretty good growl and no bumblebee ricey sounds either. COOL!
