Noise when I turn steering wheel

So I hear a knocking noise when I turn the wheel back and forth quickly. The key doesnt have to be in the ignition, it happens all the time when I turn the wheel like 5 degrees each way. It happens more when I turn it towards the left. Sounds like its coming from the steering column but I think I hear it in the engine bay also. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks...

How many miles on the struts? Lowered? Might be the cause of the problem ..

Hm I'm not sure how many miles. No, not lowered.. The drivers side front strut is softer than the others and looks like its leaking. Are they oil filled? But when I push down on that side it doesnt make the noise, seems like its only steering related...
Thanks.

Hmm Interesting I have the same problem for a few months. I think mine is from autocrossing. I tried putting my hand on the strut where the strut bar is attatched on the drivers side and i can feel some kind of vibration. I havent inspected my struts any farther than that. It also makes the noise when im making a slow turn such as when I am parking. Another recall? **my car is not lowered also.**

I forgot to post that I had mine checked and they said its just the rack and pinion steering making the noise when the engine is off since there is no fluid moving in there so the gears are meshing against each other so its basically normal.

What kind of noise was yours making by the way? Mine was sort of a squeaky rubbing noise.

I just got back form the dealer after they replaced the front & rear sway bars along with the busshings! I have the same nocking noise when I turn the wheel back and forth quickly! exactly as you described! I will jack the car up and see exactly what they did or what's causing the problem! I'll get back to you guys!
