Question Poor? Gas mileage

Is this bad gas mileage? 2002 Protege' ES 2.0L : Highway mileage is 32mpg. Has been upwards of 40mpg at higher altitude on a trip.... help?

Email me: rleikam@hotmail.com

P.S.: My '91 P1 sohc gets 45-49 on highway, both cars are 5 speeds.

thats crazy....my p5 with the 2.0L 5-spd gets about 27-28mpg on the interstate if I'm lucky.

My 1.5L honda civic got 45mpg on the interstate and I thought that was impressive.

40 MPG ?!?!? methinks someone has been overestimating their fuel mileage... thats like almost 500 miles on a tank !!!

Awesome...you're getting wayyyy more mpg than I am! I'm in the 20s somewhere.

40mpg? I wish! My P5 gets close to 30 but rarely above.

How many kilometers are you getting per litre?

On a trip from Richmond, VA to Rochester, NY I made it 486 miles on 12.4 Gallons of gas (>39mpg). That's the best I've ever seen from my car. I think I must have had a nice tail wind all the way up.

I think I've hit maybe 32 before that, but in general, I average between 27 and 30mpg.

NOTE THE POSTER'S LOCATION /end rant/.

32mpg in Canada (Imperial gallons) is approximately equal to 27 mpg in the US (US gallons).

Sounds about right to me. The best I have ever seen with my P5 standard is about 36-38 MPG (imperial) on flat road driving. Usually I get about 28 mpg (imperial) around town.

the most ive ever gotten with constant rush hour driving (washington DC beltway) for 5 days a week was 29mpg using Citgo gas. i tried BP gas and got 26mpg. Mobil gets about 28mpg. i started keeping track around late november, so the cold weather may have something to do with it.
