Pro matic shift

Trade it in for a Manual!!!
Sorry just being a smarta##. I know this is a major issue with the Mazda6 manumatics, the ones at rev it up really sucked. That is just one problem with having an automatic. I know the mazda6 people are working on fixing the problem but haven't found anything with the protege's yet.

It's an issue with the solenoids that drive the actual mechanism, I believe. I've also found that shifting it between 3k-4k yields better shifter response than say 4500-5500k, even though that is the powerband of the vehicle.

u just gotta learn the car and time yourself. even though
its AT you are still shifting manually so you need to think
a sec or 2 ahead of where you are driving to actively
select gears.
my 98 prelude has sportsshift and i can drive that
car literally sounding like a MT car with all sorts of tricks
on the gas pedal, etc. it sounds like a MT with a super light
flywheel. shift times are about 3-4 gear on most MT cars. the aT
pro5 responds a tad slower, but its not THAT slow.
btw, my pro5 is a MT..why? its got so little power that i wanted
to use every bit of it.

I don't think it's possible todd. You have to understand the physics behind an automatic transmission. It's impossible to have the shifts occur instantaneously. Also keep in mind that these types of transmission are notorious for crapping out, so take it easy.

I highly advise ever down-shifting into 1st, regardless of the conditions or the want to do this. I assure you that the shift down will be far from what you had in mind.
Also I advise a 4500rpm break-point when upping the gears. At least this way you won't cause any premature problems.
