Problem With Short Shifter

Problem With Short Shifter
I got a B&M Short Shifter and the mechanic who installed it said that he had to hammer it in. I also get a notchy shift in first and second gears. Any body else have these problems? Because I heard that a short shifter can screw up the syncros in your tranny.

My B&M SS is stiff going into first and second gear when its cold, but after 10 minutes of driving, it loosens up. First and reverse are a (#$*% to get into sometimes. However I dont seem to have problems from first to second...at least not yet...try changing your fluids to synthetics...It helped a lot

I have the B&M in my car....had it for nearly a year....did the install myself...
YES it was TIGHT to get in.....but I did NOT hammer it....it was able to be PUSHED in, you have to use a lot of the grease that is supplied with it to get it in properly.......
(I hate bonehead mechanics that would do something like this....he KNEW it wasn't supposed to be HAMMERED IN, so why did he? answer: because it didn't belong to him!!)
As for shifting hard or difficult? nope....its great....I have no trouble getting into ANY gear.....is it stiffer or require more effort than stock? YES, but that is the nature of a short shifter...you have decreased your leverage on the shifter by virtue of shortening it....thus it takes more effort to engage into gear.
